We split the 4 hours perfectly – 2 hours dockside going over the fundamentals, then 2+ hours actually running the boat where it counts. During the dock portion, we cover pre-departure checks, engine basics, and safety equipment walkthroughs. Once we're underway, that's when the real learning happens. You'll practice boat handling in different sea conditions, work on smooth acceleration and deceleration, and get comfortable reading the water. Brown pelicans patrol these waters constantly, diving for baitfish and giving you a good indication of what's happening below the surface. During winter months, you might catch sight of right whales migrating offshore – they're usually too far out to see during our nearshore training, but occasionally we get lucky. The variety of bird life is impressive too, from ospreys fishing the shallows to frigatebirds soaring overhead, making every training session feel like a mini nature cruise.
