Alaska Fishing Trips | Seasonal Starter Package
If you've been dreaming about casting a line in Alaska's legendary waters, this is your chance to make it happen. Our Starter Fishing Package puts you right in the heart of some of the best fishing Alaska has to offer, with seven nights at our lodge and five guided trips that'll show you why anglers travel from all over the world to fish these waters. From the famous salmon runs on the Kenai River to deep-sea halibut battles that'll test your arms, this package covers the Alaska fishing experience from every angle.
What to Expect on the Water
Your week kicks off with three river trips targeting salmon and trout in Alaska's pristine waterways. These aren't your typical fishing spots – we're talking about rivers where the salmon runs are so thick you can practically walk across their backs, and rainbow trout grow fat and feisty on the endless buffet of salmon eggs and flesh. You'll spend one day battling Pacific halibut in the deep blue, where these barn-door-sized flatfish will give you the fight of your life. The crown jewel is our fly-in fishing trip, where our aircraft takes you to remote waters that most anglers never see. These backcountry spots hold fish that haven't seen a lure all season, making for some of the most productive fishing you'll find anywhere in Alaska. Our guides know these waters like the back of their hand – they'll read the conditions, adjust techniques on the fly, and put you on fish even when Mother Nature throws us a curveball.
Techniques & Tackle
We'll have you covered with a variety of techniques depending on where we're fishing and what's biting. On the rivers, you'll be drift fishing with salmon eggs, running spinners through the current, and working flies through the deeper pools where the big fish like to hold. The key to river fishing here is reading the water – our guides will show you how to spot the subtle current breaks and eddies where salmon rest during their upstream journey. For the halibut trip, we're talking serious bottom fishing with heavy tackle, circle hooks, and enough weight to get your bait down to where these giants cruise the seafloor. You'll learn the art of feeling the bite through 200 feet of line and the proper technique for fighting a fish that can weigh more than you do. The fly-in adventure opens up possibilities for everything from sight fishing in crystal-clear alpine lakes to working streamers through beaver ponds where the trout have never seen pressure. We provide all the gear, but if you've got favorite rods or lucky lures, bring them along – half the fun is experimenting with what works best in these unique conditions.
Top Catches This Season
Chinook salmon are the kings of Alaska fishing, and for good reason. These monsters can push 50 pounds or more, with silver sides that flash like mirrors and jaws powerful enough to straighten hooks if you're not careful. June and early July is prime time for kings on the Kenai River, where they stage in the deeper holes before making their final push to the spawning grounds. What makes hooking a king so special isn't just the size – it's the way they fight, with long powerful runs that'll strip line off your reel and aerial displays that'll get your heart racing. Pacific halibut are the gentle giants of the deep, but don't let that fool you into thinking they're pushovers. These flatfish can live for decades and grow to massive proportions, with the biggest specimens weighing in at 400 pounds or more. The halibut we typically target range from 30 to 100 pounds, which is plenty of fish to keep you busy for 20 minutes or more. They fight differently than salmon, using their broad bodies like a sail to resist being pulled up from the depths. The reward is some of the best eating fish in the ocean, with firm white meat that's perfect on the grill. Coho salmon, or silvers as we call them, are the acrobats of the salmon world. They might not have the bulk of a king, but they make up for it with attitude, launching themselves clear out of the water and making blistering runs that'll test your drag system. Cohos are aggressive biters that'll hit everything from spoons to flies, making them perfect for anglers who like action-packed fishing where something's always happening.
