I had the pleasure of guiding Clay Olson on a morning trip at the beautiful San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park. March is a great time to target inshore species like Black Drum and Sheepshead in these waters, and the conditions were absolutely perfect - clear skies and calm waters made for an incredibly scenic day on the water. We started off with some light tackle and fly fishing, working the flats and deeper channels for signs of life. It didn't take long before Clay's rod doubled over, and he was into a scrappy Black Drum. That fish put up one heck of a fight, stripping line and testing his tackle, but he kept his cool and landed it beautifully. Not long after, he hooked into a nice Sheepshead that had us both grinning from ear to ear. The action stayed steady throughout the morning, with a few more solid hook-ups that had the adrenaline pumping. While the fishing was fantastic, the real highlight was just being out on the water, taking in the stunning natural scenery of the park. The tranquil flats, the birds soaring overhead, the sense of solitude - it all combined to create an incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating experience. Between the bites, we had the chance to chat, swap stories, and just soak in the beauty of our surroundings. That's what makes a trip like this so special - it's not just about the number of fish caught, but the overall experience of being out on the water, reconnecting with nature. If you're looking to experience some of the best inshore fishing that Florida's Forgotten Coast has to offer, I highly recommend booking a trip with Angry Fish Inshore Charters. Whether you're an experienced angler or a complete beginner, we'll make sure you have an unforgettable day on the water. Give us a call and let's get you out on the water for an adventure you won't soon forget!
It was an early morning, but the perfect weather and water conditions made it worth getting out on the water with Christopher Irvin for a morning inshore fishing trip at San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park. February is a great time to target fish like Black Drum, Spotted Seatrout, and Sheepshead in these shallow, protected inshore waters. We started off with some live bait fishing, targeting the structure and grass beds where we knew the fish would be holding. It didn't take long before the action picked up, and Christopher was into his first fish—a nice Sheepshead that put up a great fight. He kept his cool, and we got it in the boat. That seemed to turn the bite on, and before long, he was hooked up again, this time with a feisty Spotted Seatrout. The fish were really fired up, and we continued picking away, adding a few more Seatrout and even a hefty Black Drum to the cooler. Overall, it was just a really fun, productive morning on the water. The fish were cooperative, and we had a great time targeting them with light tackle. Between the steady action and the beautiful scenery, it was the perfect way to spend a morning. These inshore trips always have that special blend of great fishing and good company, and this one was no exception. If you're looking to experience some of the best inshore fishing around San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park, I highly recommend booking a morning trip with Angry Fish Inshore Charters. Whether you're after Seatrout, Sheepshead, Redfish, or any of the other incredible inshore species that call these waters home, our experienced guides will put you on the fish and make sure you have an amazing time on the water. So if you're planning a trip to the area, be sure to reach out and let us show you the best that inshore has to offer. We can't wait to get you out there!
I’ve spent the last few days east and west of the st marks lighthouse and happy to say I personally have not seen a fish kill from aucilla to panacea. The trout have been slow to bite. I had a day off and went and put a limit in the boat. Also saw 3 seperate schools of nice sized convicts total around 200 fish. I’m ready for some sheepies!!! Pic is from today took about 20minutes for me to catch my trout limit.
Water Conditions: Water clarity is excellent, with calm tides and a temperature around 78°F. Species Report: Redfish: Redfish are abundant in the shallow flats and marsh areas. Most catches are in the 18-28 inch range, with live shrimp, cut mullet, and gold spoons being the top baits. Sea Trout: Speckled Trout are biting well near grassy areas and deeper holes. Anglers are having success with soft plastics and topwater lures, catching fish between 15-20 inches. Flounder: Flounder activity is strong around sandy and muddy bottoms, especially near structure. Best baits include jig heads with soft plastic grubs and live minnows. Sheepshead: Found around docks, bridges, and rocky areas. Fiddler crabs and live shrimp are effective, with most fish in the 2-4 pound range. Spanish Mackerel: Active in nearshore waters and around bait schools. Silver spoons and small trolling plugs are working well, with fish averaging 18-24 inches. Fishing Tips: Early morning and late afternoon are the most productive times, especially for topwater action. Focus on structure and tidal changes to locate the best fishing spots. Use lighter tackle for a more exciting fight, especially with Redfish and Trout.
The St Marks bite has been great all summer and will get even better the closer we get to fall.
The bite continues to provide steady action during both tides of the day. The Fall frenzy is right around the corner.
As water temps begin to hit the magic numbers, around 70 degrees the bite has blown up. topwater, sightcasting, flyfishing all on 🔥. i have a feeling tarpon could show up any day now.
As the water temps continue to slowly climb to that mid 60's water the fish are beginning to move out of the creeks and out onto the shallow flats. Sight casting for redfish and speckled trout in super shallow water clear water is becoming a daily go to. I still have some availability in february and march.
Let’s fish and fill the boat with 12-15 reds and several really nice Trout. Every day is a great day on the water. Experience the hot bites and start casting your lines. I’m booking fast for November. Don’t let the best time of the year for inshore fishing pass you by. Keep an eye out! As always tight lines.
