Sergeant major damselfish are the feisty little guys with bright yellow bodies and black stripes. They're small but territorial, especially during breeding season from April through August when the males turn darker and guard their nests aggressively. Don't be surprised if one follows you around – they're just making sure you know whose neighborhood you're visiting. Green sea turtles are the real showstoppers though. These gentle giants can weigh up to 300 pounds and live for decades. The grass beds around Palomino Island are prime turtle territory, and spotting one gracefully gliding through the water is always a trip highlight. They're most commonly seen in the early morning or late afternoon, and they're completely harmless – just keep a respectful distance and enjoy the show.
