Jack Guard
Blackbeards Fishing Adventures offers private river fishing trips built around one thing: enjoying the water, learning something new, and chasing hard-fighting Smallmouth Bass in some of the most scenic stretches of the Upper Potomac. Guide Jack Guard brings a lifetime of fishing experience and a relaxed, hands-on approach to every trip, making these outings a great fit for first-time anglers, experienced fishermen, and anyone looking for a more personal day on the river.
Trips are run from a 15-foot expedition-quality whitewater fishing raft equipped with a rowing frame and a small Honda outboard. With space limited to just two guests, every outing feels personal and flexible. Jack can adjust the day around river conditions, your experience level, and the kind of fishing you want to do. Spin fishing and fly fishing techniques are both available, and all necessary fishing gear is provided.
Smallmouth Bass are the main target, and the river setting adds just as much to the experience as the fishing itself. Guests can float through beautiful water, cast along productive banks and current seams, or even work in some wade fishing when conditions allow. Beginners can slow things down for casting practice and instruction, while more experienced anglers can focus on refining presentations and covering productive water efficiently.
Half-day trips are ideal for anglers who want a shorter outing while still getting plenty of time on the river. Full-day trips provide a more complete float and include lunch along with water, sodas, and electrolyte drinks. Half-day trips include drinks. Jack also offers beginner fly fishing instruction for guests who want to build confidence with the basics before putting those skills to work on the river.
The main fishing season runs from mid-March through October, with each part of the year offering a different feel. Cooler-season outings may also be possible for dedicated anglers prepared for changing weather. Whether you are chasing your first Smallmouth Bass, learning to fly fish, or simply looking for a quiet private float with a knowledgeable local guide, Blackbeards Fishing Adventures keeps the experience friendly, flexible, and focused on making your time on the river worthwhile. The Upper Potomac also offers a rich backdrop of river scenery and local history near Harpers Ferry, giving each float a sense of place beyond the fishing. Come ready to cast, learn, explore, and enjoy a day shaped around you and the river today!
