Grind Session Bowfishing Adventure

This isn't your typical sunset fishing trip. The Grind Session is built for bowfishermen who live for the hunt and aren't afraid to put in the hours when the fish are feeding heavy. We're talking about a legitimate all-night session that starts thirty minutes before dark and runs straight through until sunrise. If you're the type who checks out after midnight, this probably isn't your trip. But if you're ready to stack some serious fish and experience what bowfishing is really about, then grab your gear and let's get after it.
The Grind Session caps out at four shooters max, and there's a good reason for that. When we hit these prime feeding windows, the action gets intense fast. More shooters means chaos, missed opportunities, and somebody's always in the way when that monster carp slides into your shooting lane. With four bows working the water, everyone gets clean shots and plenty of opportunities to put arrows through fish. The boat stays organized, and you're not fighting for position when schools start moving through. Pack your own drinks and snacks because we're staying out there as long as the fish are active. Bring a sleeping bag if you think you might need to catch some Z's between the hot bites, though most guys are too wired to sleep when the fish are stacked up like they get on these nighttime runs.
Night bowfishing is a completely different game than shooting fish during daylight hours. We run high-powered LED light arrays that penetrate deep into the water column, bringing fish up from the depths and creating that ethereal underwater landscape that makes bowfishing so addictive. The lights draw baitfish, which brings in the predators, but they also reveal the massive schools of rough fish that stay hidden during daylight hours. You'll learn to read water differently at night - watching for the subtle movements, the nervous baitfish, and those telltale shadows that give away a big fish cruising just outside the light cone. Shot placement becomes critical because you're dealing with light refraction, moving targets, and the pressure of knowing your buddies are watching every arrow you loose. We'll coach you through the technical aspects of night shooting, from judging depth to leading moving targets, but the real education comes from time behind the bow when the fish are thick.

While we can't predict exactly which species will show up on any given night, the Grind Session typically produces encounters with several rough fish species that are perfectly legal and encouraged targets for bowfishing. Common carp are the bread and butter of most bowfishing trips, and these guys get serious at night. They cruise the shallows in schools, rooting through vegetation and stirring up bottom sediment as they feed. Mature carp can push 20-30 pounds, and when you stick one that size, you know it. They're incredibly strong fish with serious stamina, and watching one thrash on the end of your bowfishing line is pure adrenaline. The best action usually happens in the first few hours after dark and again just before dawn when they move into their feeding zones.
Gar species are another highlight of night bowfishing sessions, and they're absolute prehistoric beasts that fight like nothing else in freshwater. These armored predators cruise just below the surface, and their long, narrow profile makes them challenging targets that separate experienced bowfishermen from beginners. Longnose gar are the most common, but occasionally we'll spot alligator gar that can stretch six feet or more. They're ambush predators that can explode into action when spooked, creating heart-stopping moments when you realize you've just arrowed a fish that's bigger than you expected. Gar are most active during warm weather months, and they tend to follow baitfish schools that gather around our lights.
Buffalo species round out the target list, and these chunky, powerful fish are perfect for bowfishermen who want consistent action with the chance for true giants. Bigmouth buffalo can exceed 50 pounds, and even smaller buffalo in the 10-20 pound range provide excellent sport on bowfishing tackle. They often travel in groups, so when you find one, there are usually more nearby. Buffalo have this habit of rolling just under the surface, creating those subtle disturbances that experienced bowfishermen learn to recognize. They're most active during spring spawning runs and warm summer nights when they feed heavily in shallow water.
The Grind Session isn't for everyone, but if you're serious about bowfishing and want to experience what happens when everything comes together on a prime night bite, this is your trip. We keep the group small so everyone gets maximum shooting opportunities, and we stay out there until the fish quit biting or the sun comes up - whichever happens first. Most guys walk away from these trips with sore arms, full coolers, and stories they'll be telling for years. The night bite can be absolutely explosive when conditions align, and there's nothing quite like the rush of working fish under lights with a small crew of dedicated bowfishermen. Book early because these spots fill up fast, especially during peak season when the fish are most active. Bring your A-game, pack for a long night, and get ready to see what serious bowfishing looks like when the conditions are right and the fish are cooperating.

The Uncle Jay Custom is a serious fishing machine built for those marathon bow-fishing sessions when the action gets heavy. This 20-footer runs on twin 40HP Gator Tail engines that'll push you to 30 MPH, perfect for covering water fast when you're chasing schools or repositioning for the next shot. With room for 4 shooters max, there's plenty of space to draw without bumping elbows when things get busy. The onboard icebox keeps your drinks cold through those long night grinds, and you'll appreciate the stable platform when you're holding steady for that perfect shot. Those Gator Tail engines are built tough for shallow water work, so you can get into those back channels where the big fish stack up. When you're talking half-hour before dark until sunrise, you want a boat that can handle the load and keep running strong all night long.
