Inshore Bite Heating Up Along the Lower Laguna Madre Fishing in Port Mansfield is on fire as we head into late May! The Lower Laguna Madre is producing consistent action, especially in the early mornings and late afternoons. Speckled trout are schooling over grass flats and potholes, hitting soft plastics and topwater lures with enthusiasm. Wade fishing has been especially productive near East Cut and South Spoil Island, with quality trout ranging from 17–22 inches being caught regularly. Redfish are also showing up in shallow back lakes and shorelines, tailing aggressively on calm mornings. Gold spoons, paddle tails, and live shrimp under popping corks are working well. Anglers drifting the flats near Bennie’s Shack and the Saucer have had solid success with slot-sized reds. Flounder and Drum Add Variety to the Catch The flounder bite is picking up along sandy drop-offs and grass edges. Gulp shrimp and slow-rolled plastics have been the go-to for targeting these ambush predators. A few nice-sized black drum are being caught on dead shrimp fished near channel edges and grassy pockets, adding great variety to inshore trips. Whether you’re sight casting for redfish or chasing trout along the flats, Port Mansfield fishing is delivering excellent spring action right now. Light winds and warm water temperatures are making conditions ideal for anglers of all skill levels. Don’t miss out—this is one of the best times of year to fish the Lower Laguna!
Just want to say thank you Captain Carlos for letting me join you on this fishing group. It was an awesome day.
