Fishing in the New Orleans inshore waters is heating up as we move deeper into summer. Redfish have been steady in the marshes, especially around grass lines and oyster beds. Sight casting is productive on clear, calm mornings, and live shrimp or gold spoons are doing the trick. Anglers are also finding success with topwater lures during early hours, especially near bait schools. Speckled trout action has been solid near the deeper cuts and channels, with limits coming in on live bait and soft plastics under popping corks. The best bites are happening during the early morning and late evening tides. Black drum and flounder are also showing up in good numbers, rounding out the inshore variety. With warm water temps and light winds, conditions are ideal for a half-day or full-day trip. Whether you're fly fishing the flats or working light tackle near the banks, the inshore bite around New Orleans is consistent and worth the trip.
