Captain Ron's Fishing Charters

Capt. Ron Onorato started commercial fishing off Montauk Point in 1973 as a rod and reel striped bass fisherman. During that time, he landed twenty-four striped bass over 50 pounds and pioneered the art of small boat fishing for giant bluefin tuna. In the 1980's he landed over 60 tuna weighing up to 804 pounds fishing from his 22 foot Boston Whaler. In addition, he's one of only a few people in the world to land two striped bass over 60 pounds. Captain Ron specializes in fishing for Striped Bass with live bait and diamond jigs, but he also runs shark and offshore cod trips. Other species you can catch include Fluke, Porgy, Black Seabass, and Bluefish. Captain Ron fishes a 30’ True World sportfishing boat with a walkaround layout, perfect for 360-degree fishability. Powered by a reliable 315 HP Yanmar engine, the boat features a full range of marine electronics and safety equipment. Inside, there is a private bathroom, as well as a heated cabin with two bunk beds for relaxation. And while the deck is spacious enough to fish 6 people, Capt. Ron prefers to limit his charters to 4 guests to ensure a personalized and enjoyable experience for everyone on board. This year,  Captain Ron will also be fishing from a 32 foot Sea Craft center console powered by twin 300 HP Yamaha outboards with a cruising speed of 25 knots under the right conditions.  This will give a more extended range for the offshore trips. Both boats are licensed and insured and are equipped with the more stringent commercial vessels safety equipment regulations including a life raft, EPIRBs, and a satellite cell phone. Whichever trip you decide on, the focus will be on making sure everyone has an enjoyable, hands-on experience. The crew will do everything they can to make sure you come home with some delicious fish for the table – and they will make sure you have fun doing it, too!
