With over 23 years of experience in Professional Guiding and Tournament Fishing, Captain Carey Thorn has become a trusted name across North Texas waters. As the only fishing guide service in the state specializing in the Annual White Bass Spawning Run, weโ€™ve helped thousands of anglers hook into unforgettable action along the creek banks feeding Lake Lavon, Lake Ray Hubbard, and Lake Lewisville.

Year-Round Fishing on Lake Lavon, Ray Hubbard, and Lewisville

We don't stop when the white bass leave the creeks. Spring brings the crappie spawn, where we fish boat-side or wade the shallows to pull slab crappie from submerged cover. From May to October, we use Live Scope technology to find fish stacked in timber and brush piles. Our trips also include black bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and blue catfishโ€”all guided by the most experienced hands in the region.

A Lake Lavon Fishing Trip Built for Everyone

Whether you're walking a creek bank or setting out on our 19-foot G3 center console boat, we tailor each trip to your goals. Families love our channel cat trips in April and May, while trophy hunters chase blue cats from October to February. Kids, first-timers, and veterans all walk away with fish, memories, and new skills. Carey Thorn Fishing is all about simple setups, expert advice, and non-stop action.

Gear, Electronics, and Education Included

We provide everythingโ€”rods, reels, tackle, and top-tier electronics. Learn how to use your own Live Scope, Side Imaging, or Down Imaging system during our 2-hour electronics tutorial trips ($250). We work with Humminbird, Garmin, Lowrance, and Simrad systems, helping anglers read their screens and put more fish in the boat. Itโ€™s more than a tripโ€”itโ€™s a full learning experience.

Fish & Fun Guaranteed

If you're looking for a Professional Fishing Guide in Dallas, Texas, Carey Thorn Fishing is your answer. We fish Lake Lavon, Ray Hubbard, and Lake Lewisville year-round with confidence, passion, and precision. All fish are cleaned and bagged for you (except on bank trips), and water is provided on board. Just bring a drink and a licenseโ€”weโ€™ll handle the rest.

Lake Lavon Morning Bite Report: Three-Man Limit by 9 AM with Capt. Carey Thorn

Lake Lavon Fishing Guide Report launched at 6:15 and started the rounds. First stop was glass house, which was absolutely choked with Bait. But I knew it was at least 15 minutes early that we were there so I decided to go check the island, Little Ridge hybrid point and then come back to it about 830. Island tip was choked with babies and lots of yellow bass. Ran over to Little Ridge mixed bag again small fish couple keepers, but not what I was looking for. Went back to the island to to make sure they didnโ€™t show up when I left, but it was still the same results. By this time itโ€™s 815 so we went over to glass house. We had a few trickle under the boat and it was a fish every five minutes or so. We only needed 27 more at that point after picking at them around the lake. About 830 we were catching a fish every 30 seconds to a minute. But then about 845 the screen lit up and it was a keeper almost every drop. Finished the three man limit before 9 oโ€™clock, which made it a little bit later than I like. I like to have the limit in the boat by at least 8 am, so we can relax and CPR Fish the rest of the day. Lake Lavon & Ray Hubbard Fishing Update: Limits, Patterns, and Pro Tips from the Water

Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard Fishing Guide Report: Lavon: White Bass: with the gates open thereโ€™s no real pattern yet. You still have to be out there early to see if you can get a top water bite or swim bait when theyโ€™re swimming on the surface blowing shad out of the water. The white egrets will be on the banks telling you pretty much where they should be. If youโ€™re not getting bit within the first 30 minutes of sunlight, youโ€™ll probably have to move out to 10 to 20 foot of water somewhere. And use slabs 1 ounce white or chartreuse. Crappie: gates are opening and closing making the Crappieโ€™s pattern very mystical some days. Look on temper and brush piles 10 to 20 foot. Once the gate close the pattern should be 10 to 20 pretty much the rest of the summer. Start shallow work your way deeper until you figure out where they theyโ€™re holding that day as every day has been different. Channel Cats: are still good on baited holes and on the rip wrap and some brush. Using soured grain thrown up in the rocks and bushes hold them in there long enough to keep your limits. Black Bass: white and chartreuse spinner baits in the morning are still getting them around the rip wrap, concrete and shallow submerged brush on points and secondary points. The back of the Coveโ€™s are not doing well anymore. Creature baits and worms Texas rig on rock piles and large brush piles are holding fish. Underwater points 10 to 15 foot Carolina rigging is working well. Hubbard: Today I helped Brandon w/ LeadSlingers at Hubbard. Had a seven person group go out this morning but we had to wait due to the 30 mile an hour gusts from seven to 9 oโ€™clock, but we got out there at about 830 and the fish were blowing up right in the front of the marina. Threw paddle tales and Brandon through spinners and we quickly filled the box up with 175 keeper fish, seven man limit. It amazes me the way each lake fishes completely different. A lot of the times at Hubbard. The fish are way deeper than they are on Lavon usually. But that is where side imaging with the Humminbirdโ€™s comes in handy at finding them. You just have to zigzag along ledges and humps and the flats until you see something to Fish. Canโ€™t just go out there randomly and drop a line and think youโ€™re gonna get them, you gotta get the boat on them. Never overlook the birds if you see them hovering above the water, especially Great Blue Herons, if theyโ€™re hovering above the water out in the middle of the lake, they are 100% on feeding fish. But obviously if you see the seagulls dive bombing in the same area, you have to go check them out. But never leave Fish if theyโ€™re under your boat to run 100 yards away for surfacing Fish. Stay on the biting fish till they disappear then go hunt again. Sometimes when you go to chase the fish, you might spook them and they will go down and you have nothing to show for it. And absolutely positively 100%, do not roll your boat through the dang school of surfacing Fish. Figure out which way theyโ€™re pushing the Bait get ahead of them and just float and they will come right to you or get casting distance but do not go through the Fish . I thought that would be common sense lol but it is not. What if you had a big 20 foot boat with a big propeller going across your head? What are you gonna do? Kind of silly. I have to explain that. ๏ฟผ thinking about it, though, those people mightโ€™ve needed glasses? Anyways, every day has been stellar on the lake and limits are pretty easy. White Bass & Crappie Showing Up Strongโ€”Scouting Is Key Right Now

Some creeks have some, some of the creeks have None, and some of the creeks are choked with fish. ๏ฟผ๏ฟผ we are now starting to catch semi easy limits. ๏ฟผ so we are now booking until May. After the cold front coming up next week should be pretty good and if we get any rain that should get most of the creeks something to catch Lake Lavon Dam has their gate open. Most of the fish are going to divert there until they close the gates. So Rowlett Creek might be a little slow till that happens. But I remember one year when I had the gates open 3 to 5000 CFI, all the Sandies went there along with Hybrids and the Crappie made a huge push up rowlett creek. Everybody even people with push button rods were getting limits of Crappieโ€™s and maybe one to six sandyโ€™s on every stringer we were seeing that year. 20 years doing it and Iโ€™ve never seen that amount of Crappie come out of a creek. But that was in the past, but it might happen again one year. Right now weโ€™re using 4 pound line on 7 ft rods. Finessing the fluke or straight jigging back. Jigging bobber and the deeper spots is working well. But again, youโ€™re gonna have to scout this year. Like at Lake Lavon the waters way up so you gotta go way up now. Unless you know where the little deep pockets are in the creek, youโ€™ll have Fish resting in those. I think itโ€™s only dumping 400 CFI or something I havenโ€™t checked. But if they dumped over 1000 thatโ€™ll bring up the Hybrids. Iโ€™ve heard of a couple caught already, but not in big numbers. If you wanna learn how to do this so you can do it on your own the next day and get that learning curve taken care of, shoot me a text 469-528-0210 and weโ€™ll find a day to get you on the water $150/ per person ( you are solo and donโ€™t have anybody to go with you. Donโ€™t worry about it. Shoot me a text.) 4 hours ๏ฟผ๏ฟผ -all you will need is a drink and your fishing license. Accessories that I would highly highly recommend would be polarized glasses wades to keep sticks bugs, mud, and of course, water off of you, and soccer cleats or football cleats to keep you in the upright position, the whole trip. You donโ€™t have to have waders, but like I said, they keep you clean. We rarely ever get into the water. Itโ€™s just some spots we might need to cross over knee deep water or such.

Guide Carey Thorn is a wealth of knowledge and is an all around great human being. I first met Carey while fishing with my then 10 year old son. It was at creek I hadn't fished before and although we were catching fish, I knew we should be doing better. Carey is walking out with a client and they had limited. He comes over and begins talking to us. He proceeds to hand us a pack of flukes, said "hook these through the eye, cast it out, and let it fall. You'll feel the sandbass hit it". He asked if I had polarized glass, which I did, and told me to put them on. He then asked if that's the only stringer I had...I said yes. He goes in his bag and gives me another one and said..."you'll need this. You're gonna limit". That was the last time I saw Carey. I was like that's an amazing guide to do all of that for free. I didn't even know his name. A couple of years later, my son and I are watching YouTube and he says, "DAD, that's the guy that gave us those lures and the stringer years ago!" It surely was! 3 years ago I bought a boat and was doing my break in on Lavon. I see Carey with a guide trip and idle over to him. I proceed to tell him I met him several years ago and he stops me mid sentence..."Yeah over at Pecan Creek with your son...he's gotten big!" My son and I were astonished that 2 people he met only once for a couple of minutes he knew instantly...years later. I proceeded to tell him I wanted to book an electronics trip with him. He gave me his number and later that day we set up the trip. Carey showed me how to use my 2D Sonar, Downscan and SideScan. In less than an hour I had picked it up and was becoming effective at reading my electronics. I run into Carey from time to time, in the creeks or on the lake and he still gives me pointers on things I could do to increase my knowledge. If you are looking for an absolutely amazing guide to put you on fish, to teach you electronics or increase the knowledge you already know...CAREY A THORN is that man!!! You will not be disappointed. Thanks again Carey for that amazing interaction over a decade ago. My son still tells that story!

Carey was absolutely the best!! Took my two 8 year olds out this morning and this guy is the real deal. He knows the lake and got us on the fish quickly. He was great with the kids and took care of everything for us. They had the best fishing experience they have ever had. Caught over 60 fish! We will definitely be going with Carey again and again. If you want an awesome day fishing filled with smiles and great company Carey and his team are it!!! 10 out of 10!!

Best guide Iโ€™ve ever used. Every time Iโ€™ve been with him we all limited in at least 1 species. Catching enough to make you sore for two days is a real thing when you fish with Carey. He is abnormally good at what he does. He doesnโ€™t treat it like a one time guide service. Constantly teaching and coaching to make you a better angler. He is an open book. Never met a guide of any sort that honestly shares all their tips and tricks. On multiple occasions not on a guided trip he has called us over to share where and what the fish are doing. Iโ€™ll never forget the day he told me about this bass like it was his pet. I thought he was full of it. Took us accross the lake. Described this bass to a T. Shape and location of its Scar, distinguishing black dot, and a couple other unusual features. Two casts and BAM. Pulled in the 4-5 lb bass he was describing.

I have been out with Carey many times! Always fun and a wealth of knowledge will be shared with you on targeting specific fish. Also Carey is absolute genius on helping you with your electronics and setting them up and helping you to understand them! ๐ŸŒŸ ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ In the spring, he guides on the creeks and let me tell you itโ€™s a blast, especially when you bring the kids along for the catch they have been dreaming for ๐ŸŽฃ Text Carey Thorn for your next trip!
