Hot bite and happy crew! Summer fishing in Portsmouth NH was in full swing as I took Matthew and their crew out for some inshore action with Fish Taco. We launched from Portsmouth Marina on a partly cloudy day, perfect conditions for targeting striped bass. The early morning start gave us a prime opportunity to hit the best spots before the day heated up. With our gear rigged and ready, we set out to explore the productive waters around Portsmouth. Our approach combined bottom fishing, trolling, and jigging techniques to maximize our chances of hooking into some quality stripers. The partly cloudy skies provided ideal conditions, keeping the fish active without the harsh glare of full sun. As we worked different areas, I shared insights on how each method could be effective for enticing strikes from the local striped bass population. The crew picked up the techniques quickly, and it wasn't long before we started seeing results. The highlight of our trip was definitely the impressive haul of striped bass. We managed to boat a total of 835 inches of stripers, which is a testament to the productive fishery we have here in Portsmouth. The combination of bottom fishing, trolling, and jigging proved effective, with each method producing fish throughout our outing. We wrapped up the trip with great catches and smiles all around, making it a successful day on the water for Fish Taco. It was a beautiful June morning when we set out for our 4-Hour Striper and Mackerel Fishing Trip at the Portsmouth Marina. As the guide for Fish Taco, I always look forward to these trips - the summer months are prime time for striped bass fishing in these waters, and today's forecast of partly cloudy skies promised ideal conditions. We met our anglers, a father and son from Philly, at the marina at 6 AM and got them set up with their gear. I could tell they were eager to get out on the water and try their hand at landing a big striper. We wasted no time heading out and started working the shoreline, for mackerel. we got a half dozen. then it was up rhe river to use the macs as bait for stripers. It wasn't long before one of our guests, a young man named Foster, had a solid hookup. He fought that fish hard, and I could see the excitement on his face as he reeled in his first big striped bass - a 32-inch beauty! After a few quick photos, we carefully released the fish, already planning our next cast.As we headed back to the marina, our anglers were all smiles, excited about the fish they'd caught and the memories they'd made. That's what these trips are all about - creating unforgettable experiences on the water, whether you're a seasoned angler or picking up a rod for the first time. If you're looking to get in on the striper and mackerel action in Portsmouth, our 4-Hour and 6-Hour Striper Fishing Trips are the perfect way to do it. Book your trip with Fish Taco today and let us show you the best inshore fishing the area has to offer!
Water temp in low 40s on this trip. Generally too cold for a great bite, but Charles' son Nilos managed to get three great hits on a 9 inch white sluggo, and hooked one large striper. With a serious bend in the rod it looked like it would too 30 or more inches but it shook the hook when it reached the boat. Charles had a good bite in chunk mackerel but missed the hook set. These were fwo fun and enthusiastic fishermen. Charles said he will be booking s trip in a few weeks tomlearn how to flyfish for stripers. I welcome him back. If you're looking for an awesome inshore fishing experience in the Portsmouth area, I highly recommend booking a 4 or 6-Hour Inshore Fishing Charter with Fish Taco. We'll put you on the fish using a variety of techniques, from fly fishing the flats to working structure with baitcast gear. Even if the bite is a little off, you're guaranteed to have a great time out on the water. The seasonal conditions, ideal habitat, and our local expertise will give you the best shot at some feisty Striped Bass, and you might even hook into a few other surprises along the way. So if you're ready to experience the thrill of inshore fishing in New Hampshire, get in touch and let's get you out on the water.
Water too cold for a great bite.
Birthday present to Dad to fish for Stripers, but Mom caught the biggest one.
Hard fishing one day, 2nd day the "bite was ON". Day 1, 4-6 ft breaking waves. No way to go out on ocean to get live bait without getting soaked, and it was cold and rainy, East wind. We got 5+ takes but only landed one Keeper, which they took for dinner. Our intrepid family fished on! 2nd day, everyone got fish, a number of keepers and our young boy guest caught 3 keeper-sized (28"-31") Stripers on super light tackle rod with a top-water plastic bait. What a hoot!
classic technique. we snagged pogies with a treble hook. then cut them in half and lowered them with a weight below the 100s of pogies and hooked a 38 inch striper wirhin 2 seconds.
Worked hard to get this nice fish. Went all the way 9 miles offshore to the Isles of Shoals (we heard there might be a bite going on there). But the Shoals had nothing going on. Super quiet. Mackerel were hard to find too. Only put 3 in the livewell. But on returning to the river, we scouted out this nice 28" keeper who slammed a live mackerel right on top of the water in only about 5 feet depth. It was a hoot to see that fish chase down the mackerel, right on top.
21 year old guest, Eli, and his Dad from Arkansas, caught 4 keeper sized Striped Bass (Eli's 1st Striper)
5 keeper stripers on the 30" range today on live mackerel. incoming tide. heavy rain.
Caught 4 Stripers in the 30 inch range in the rocks off Jenness Beach, Rye, NH, and at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, Porstmouth, and off the rocks in Kittery, Maine.
Fish were busting out at high tide and sunset at Little Harbor. Top water action on soft plastic lure.
A fishing-crazy family - Dad, Mom, and 2 young boys came all the way from Saskatchewan, Canada to fish for their first striped bass. And TACO didn't disappoint. Everyone got good-sized fish (averaging 27 inches). The total was 6 stripers caught from the mouth of the river up to the Memorial Bridge.
reports of 40 and 50 inch stripers off the shoals from trusted sources. i had a charter on my cruising boat so didnt get to fish. sunday a complete washout. hope theyre still there
A birthday wish for young Andrew and his buddy from his Dad. The three travelled from Vermont for a day of fishing. They scored a live well full of mackerel and 6 stripers. They took one keeper home for dinner.

This is the third time our family has fished on The Taco and we had a blast! Usually we fish with Capt Sean but this trip was with Capt Ben. I can’t say enough good things about Ben and his agreeable and chill attitude. We were fishing with our kids and were able to satisfy everyone’s needs and requests. We started with the usual catching mackerel for live bait (a highlight for our 11 year old) then went back to the river to fish for stripers. On the way to our fishing spots we noticed birds diving and we decided to go closer to see if stripers were feeding, My 13 year old quickly grabbed the top water sluggo and casted under the birds and on the second cast he hooked a 29 incher! We ended up catching several fish using this method then found our hot spots to use live bait. Lots of hook up’s and lots of good fish landed. Every time we saw breaching fish or birds we changed to top water and had a great time. Capt Sean and Capt Ben are both knowledgeable and so prepared to fish any way you prefer. Great experience for our family!

Even though we never caught a fish, it was a good trip. It was just bad luck water temps were so low and extremely heavy fog that never burned off till noon. Yet it was still good to be on the Water. Sean did great job getting us to fishing locations safely. During the trip we were able to talk with other fisherman who were not having any luck either.
