Hot bite and happy crew! I took Matt and their crew out for a Half-Day Salmon Adventure with Fishing Storie Charters this fall. We launched from Discovery Harbour Marina in Campbell River BC for an afternoon of inshore fishing. The weather cooperated beautifully, with clear conditions throughout our trip. As we headed out into the Sayward Land District waters, I could tell we were in for some good action. Once the stage was set, we got down to business. I started us off with some trolling, which is always a solid technique in these parts. We mixed it up with some bottom fishing and mooching as well, covering all our bases. The variety paid off - we hooked into some nice fish. The highlight of the day was a chunky 27-inch Rainbow Trout that put up a great fight. Not to be outdone, we also landed a respectable 22-inch Coho Salmon. Both species were showing up well, making for an exciting few hours on the water. We wrapped up the trip with smiles all around, satisfied with our catch and the time spent out on these beautiful waters. If you're thinking about getting out on the water yourself, I'd highly recommend giving our Half Day Salmon Fishing Charter a try. It's perfect for those who want to experience the thrill of salmon fishing without committing to a full day. Non-stop bites all day long! That's how I'd sum up our summer fishing adventure with Ian and their crew in Campbell River BC. We set out from Discovery Harbour Marina in the early morning, ready to tackle Sutil Channel. The weather was partly cloudy with a chance of rain, but that didn't dampen our spirits one bit. As we headed out with Fishing Storie Charters, I could tell it was going to be a productive day on the water. With our gear rigged and ready, we started off trolling for salmon. The Sutil Channel didn't disappoint, offering up a mix of Chinook, Coho, and Pink Salmon. We landed a nice 15-inch Chinook, followed by a hefty 30-inch Coho that put up quite a fight. The highlight for many was a 21-inch Pink Salmon that gave us a run for our money. As the day progressed, we switched things up, trying some jigging and drift fishing techniques. This variety paid off, adding Rainbow Trout, Ladyfish, and even a Gafftopsail sea catfish to our catch. The 14-inch Rainbow Trout was a beauty, and the 17-inch Gafftopsail catfish was an unexpected surprise for our inshore adventure. We wrapped up with smiles all around, everyone proud of their catches and the skills they'd honed. If you're thinking about your own fishing adventure in Campbell River, our Half-Day Salmon Adventure is the perfect way to get in on the action without taking up your whole day. It's ideal for both seasoned anglers looking to target specific species and newcomers wanting to experience the thrill of salmon fishing. We provide all the gear and expertise you need to make the most of your time on the water. Spring fishing is in full swing in Campbell River, and the inshore bite near Quadra Island and throughout the northern Strait of Georgia is heating up. Water temperatures are slowly rising, drawing in schools of baitfish and the predators that follow. Chinook Salmon are the main target this time of year. Anglers trolling off the southern tip of Quadra Island and around Willow Point are finding success in 100–150 feet of water, with fish holding near the bottom. Anchovies in teaser heads and 3”–4” spoons in green and chartreuse patterns have been productive. Most Chinook are in the 8–15 lb range, with the occasional 20+ lb catch reported. Bottom fishing has been consistent in the deeper channels between Campbell River and Quadra Island. Lingcod season opened on May 1, and early catches have been solid. Jigging near reef structures and drop-offs in 60–120 feet of water has been the go-to technique. White and pink swimbaits are working well. Expect to also hook into Rockfish and the odd Cabezon while working the structure. Prawning and crabbing remain steady in selected spots. Prawn traps set between 250–300 feet near steep ledges have been producing good hauls, especially when soaked overnight. Dungeness crab action is fair to good around sandy flats in sheltered bays, though success varies by location. Tides have played a major role in recent success. The bite tends to pick up an hour before and after slack tide. Early morning and late afternoon windows have been most productive, especially on days with less boat traffic. As always, be sure to check the latest DFO regulations for salmon retention limits and closed areas, particularly as some conservation measures may affect inshore Chinook retention.

I have fished with Jason Storie for the past twenty years off the rugged West Coast of VI. He is hands down one of the finest Captains I have fished with. He is skookum as a Captain with navigating complex water, skilled at identifying underwater features rich with springs, coho, lings and halibut, and patient with customers with whom he teaches how to fish. Jason is the real-deal legendary VI guide you want to fish with whether it is a newcomer or a grizzled veteran fisherman.
