At Golden Heart Anglers, the team is dedicated to making every moment on the water truly memorable. Their guided fly fishing trips are designed to be a standout experience, adding an unforgettable chapter to any Alaskan adventure.
Golden Heart Anglers welcomes everyone, from beginners to seasoned fly fishing enthusiasts. The staff works tirelessly to ensure that each guest walks away with lifelong memories of their time spent in Alaska’s “golden heart.” Alex, the lead guide, began his professional guiding career in 2005 after leaving his hometown of St. Louis, MO, and moving to Colorado. His passion for the outdoors led him to explore the mountainous regions of his new home state, and it was there that he discovered fly fishing—a pastime that would soon become his life’s passion.
After honing his skills on the front range, Alex relocated to the heart of the Rocky Mountains, where he worked at a local fly shop and expanded his knowledge of the sport. Over the years, his experience grew as he began guiding others on fishing trips, learning how to row a boat, and eventually expanding his guiding expertise to rivers across several states. By the 2010s, Alex had begun guiding for Steelhead in both Alaska and Idaho, a pursuit he continues to this day. He has also spent time in Belize, where he led fly tying workshops, trained future guides, and hosted trips targeting species like Permit, Tarpon, and Bonefish.
Today, Alex resides in Fairbanks, Alaska, and is thrilled to offer his guiding services in this new location. Golden Heart Anglers invites guests to create priceless memories while exploring the beauty of Alaska through fly fishing. Depending on the season and weather conditions, guests can target species such as Rainbow Trout, Grayling, and Salmon.
Golden Heart Anglers provides all necessary fishing equipment, and while Grayling and Trout are strictly catch-and-release, guests are allowed to keep their limit of Salmon. Full-day trips include a lunch, and guests are welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks. The company is also family-friendly, making it an ideal choice for those with children. Military veterans are encouraged to inquire about special discounts as a thank-you for their service.
For those seeking to immerse themselves in the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska while enjoying the thrill of fly fishing, Golden Heart Anglers offers a perfect opportunity. Book your trip today and experience the magic of Alaska’s waters!

Having never tried fly fishing before, we found Alex to be an excellent instructor. The float trip was an ideal opportunity to learn a new skill, explore the stunning green landscapes of Alaska, and reel in some fish! We can't wait to return.
