I had my first ever fishing experience with Ken Collins during the intro to fly fishing lesson, this past weekend. Not sure if there was one singular thing that made the experience so amazing, but it seemed to me that everything lined up just right that day. Beautiful weather, gorgeous views, good company, and an incredibly kind, patient, and thoughtful teacher. It was my first time even touching a fishing rod, but Ken had the vibe of age old wisdom and gave you the freedom and confidence to make mistakes and learn at your own pace. Pretty soon, my friend and I were in the water learning presentation techniques. I was able to catch my first fish in the areas that he took us to, teaching us where to look and what the fish in the water would be eating. All in all, it was an incredible time. I will definitely be pursuing fly fishing in the future, as I’ve fallen in love with it. Just a note, as my friend and I are both women, and this may be important for other women thinking about getting lessons: Ken was kind, respectful, and made sure you felt as comfortable as possible in his presence. He even recommended that my friend and I join a local women anglers club. I’d have no hesitation recommending him or Grand River Troutfitters to anybody (I already have).

My friend and I spent the day yesterday with Ken fishing for Browns. Relatively new to the sport, Ken had us fishing in no time and we caught some great fish. I can't say enough about his knowledge and expertise. It was a great day, and I highly recommend him to anyone. Looking forward to doing it again.

Ken is an outstanding teacher and guide. Alison and I had a great time on the river and learned so much. Alison had never fly fished before and he had her casting in no time. He made the learning process fun and interesting. I would strongly recommend Ken to anyone who is thinking of learning to fly fish. He not only teaches casting but how to fish different flies and when to use them.
