Book with Jason Rogers
Having called Destin home since he was six years old, Captain Jason Rogers is deeply embedded in the local fishing community. He began his fishing journey working alongside his father in commercial fishing until he turned 18. In 2011, he founded The Great Escape, and under his leadership, the charter service has been a staple of the Destin fishing scene ever since. Captain Rogers warmly invites guests to explore the stunning waters of Destin aboard his charter.
The waters surrounding Destin are rich with a variety of fish species, including King Mackerel, Permit, Red Snapper, Wahoo, Gag Grouper, Mako Shark, Blackfin Tuna, Gray Triggerfish, Vermilion Snapper, and Scamp Grouper. Depending on the conditions, guests can enjoy trolling and bottom fishing using either light or heavy tackle.
The Great Escape is proud to offer a family-friendly charter experience, encouraging families to disconnect from their screens and connect with each other on the water. For families with young children, it is advisable to check if child-sized life vests are available on board if you don’t bring your own. Also, bringing snacks is recommended to keep everyone content and energized throughout the day.
The charter operates from a spacious 58-foot Chris-Craft Convertible, which comfortably accommodates up to six passengers. This well-appointed vessel is equipped with downriggers, rods, reels, tackle, and lures needed for a successful fishing adventure. For added convenience, the boat features a toilet and is wheelchair accessible, ensuring a comfortable experience for all guests.
Captain Jason Rogers is supported by a knowledgeable First Mate who helps guests find and catch fish. It is customary to provide a tip of 10-20% of the charter cost for the First Mate’s services. The Great Escape covers all necessary fishing licenses, allowing guests to focus on enjoying their fishing experience without worrying about permits. However, it’s important to be aware of specific regulations for certain fish species, including limits on keeping catches. Guests are encouraged to ask Captain Rogers for details on what to expect.
To make the most of your trip, remember to bring non-spray sunblock, a hat, bottled water, and sunglasses. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but hard liquor and glass bottles should be avoided for safety reasons. If you wish to bring other drinks, simply ask in advance.

We took a 4-hour family trip that was just right for us. Both the Captain and deckhand were friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend this experience. We had limited success trolling on the way out, but once we switched to bottom fishing, we started catching fish almost immediately. Although we landed several impressive Triggerfish, they were out of season. In the end, we kept around 20 fish, which we later cooked up and enjoyed!

We had a fantastic day on our 4-hour trip! The five of us caught plenty of fish, enough snapper to feed our families that night. Although we didn’t land any big ones, the experience was well worth it. Highly recommend these guys!
