With water temperatures in the upper '50s, and the day starting off in the low 30s, we knocked the socks off several species including striped bass, hybrid striped bass, catfish and spotted bass.
Continual high pressure system and no rain all month has made certain days a bigger challenge than others, but we're always find in a few good ones in with the schoolies.
Father and son getting it done! Football season is upon us andwe caught a few of the prettiest line sides today! Started out a little foggy and though we were socked in, we made the best of our start and finished strong.
We sure had a great time this weekend just knocking down well over thirty and up to 50 fish in a 4 hour trip. The majority of our catches were on fresh and frisky threadfin shad and blue back herring, but we were able to pick up quite a few on both the spoon and jig.
We sure had a blast crushing the spotted bass on creature baits this week. Chattahoochee jigs and Spro Rk55 Rock Crawlers were a big hit!
We go from bundled up to dress down at times, but we do go where the fish are. October and November are quality fishing months, and we are booking up quickly. These are our wildest months on Allatoona and Carters Lakes for quality fish of all species, and we are well equipped and most hopeful for big striped bass. Let's go fishing! The Lake Allatoona Striped Bass fishing is second to none right now!

On 10/2/22, my brother Stone Phillips took me and 2 other friends out on a half day, 4 hour fishing trip on Lake Altoona with our wonderful fishing guide Joe! We arrived at 6:45 and after a warm welcome, some safety requirements and fishing instructions, we were on our way to our first fishing hole. We could not have asked a more beautiful morning! The temperature was perfect, barely any breeze as hurricane Ian moved through the day before and made for an unforgettable sunrise! See pics! Unfortunately, the fish were not hungry that morning but Joe knew exactly where to takes us so that everyone on the boat got an opportunity to reel one in. We caught white bass, large mouth bass and a nice catfish. Because of the fact that is was a slow fishing day, Joe allowed us to continue far past our alloted "half-day" time limit. We could all feel that Joe wanted us to catch fish just as much as we did which is a prime example of his professionalism, all-round great attitude, witty personality and desire to show us a great time and catch fish! I consider myself an amateur photographer and I asked Joe if he ever sees any bald eagles on Lake Altoona. Well, to my surprise, he said he had seen one or two recently and knew about where a nest was. As we were on our way to one of his fishing spots, he points to a huge eagle soaring a few feet above the water and not far from us, and yells "Billy! There's your eagle!" It was one of the most awesome sights I've ever seen in 55 years! There is no doubt who I'm going to ask for my next guided fishing trip! Thank-You Joe and Heron Outdoors for a spectacular day on Lake Altoona! Best regards, Billy Sherwood

Captain Joe took me and my Dad out early in the morning for a great time fishing! We caught a mess of fish, admired the beauty of Lake Allatoona and enjoyed being on the water. Captain Joe was a terrific guide with lots of stories and pointers for us as we fished. I'm telling all my friends about this great experience. Thank you Joe!

My family and I had an absolute blast fishing with Captain Joseph. Great energy and he took us to where the fish were biting! Four of us and we caught about 10 big fish each. Can't wait to go back out again!

We can’t recommend Herron Outdoor adventures enough. Joseph is very friendly and absolutely knows what he is doing. We caught more fish than we could count and had a wonderful day on Lake Altoona. My 5 year grandson was over the moon between catching fish and the boat ride. We spent 5 hours on the lake and a five year old didn’t complain once about going home , I think that says everything you need to know about the experience. If your thinking about hiring a fishing guide Herron Outdoors is a great place to start!
