Captain John has 40 years of fishing experience and he definitely can fill the boat with fish! He has also participated in fishing tournaments throughout the mid-Atlantic and South-Eastern. He is always excited about taking new adventures and can’t wait to bring his guests out in the waters for a fishing action they will always remember.
Your adventure will start as soon as you hop on the 26 ft. Hook Up (Maycraft Center Console) fishing boat that is fully equipped and ready to take your family or fishing buddies on a Hatteras light tackle fishing adventure. The fish targeted on this charter may vary depending on what fits your fishing style and desire. Your Catch can consist of Red Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Redfish and more. The possibilities of different fish in your catch will also depend on the time of year and conditions.
All tackle and lures are provided. A North Carolina Fishing License is not required. For a more convenient and enjoyable time in the waters, don’t forget to bring food and drinks in a small cooler, sunscreen protection, be in your weather-appropriate clothing, and a camera to capture every moment of the trip!

Our first experience in half day fishing. can I say it was The BEST TRIP ever. Good start to the morning with Beautiful Sun Rise and Nice ride out on the Boat . Then the fishing started, we caught so many fish . I was a perfect day of Fishing . Captain John was GREAT. I would rec HIGHLY . Thanks Captain JOHN for a perfect day .

My girlfriend and I went fishing with John on hookup charters. John took us to some shallows and got us on the fish right away. Ended up catching our limit of drum and a nice big trout. Had a blast conversing with him , he is very knowledgeable of the area and the fishing and is a true outdoorsman with a good sense of humor. We will be fishing with him again.

We were 2 adults and 4 kids ages 12-14 and John on a half day fishing trip. John knows the area very well and has contacts on shore and out on the water. After about an hour of travel, trying 1 spot and John talking to other captains, we got into several schools of blue fin and mackerel. John was gaffing fish into the boat non-stop and helping reset lost bait and tangled lines for about 2 hours before we motored back to dock. It was a very enjoyable time and better experience than another charter that we tried a few days later.

Hands down the BEST customer service and fishing experience in the Outer Banks! Captain John Canning provided my family and me with memories to last a lifetime! Cpt. John made sure to put us on some fish the whole trip especially by collaborating with his friends the whole time to make sure where they’re biting! This man knows his stuff as we brought home more than what was expected and topped off the trip by putting me on a record Red Drum at the end of the trip! Thanks John for a heck of time that we will never forget! We will fish with you every time we visit OBX!
