These guys love the continental shelf edges and deeper waters around structure. Fall through spring is prime time here in the Keys when water temps stay above 68°F. They school up tight, often mixing with skipjack, making for fast action when you find them. The meat is outstanding - dark red and rich, perfect for sashimi or steaks. They're incredibly line-shy with sharp eyesight, so here's the trick: scale down to #30 fluorocarbon leaders and smaller 5/0 circle hooks. Vertical jigging works great, and live pilchards for chum will bring them right to the boat.
Coryphaena HippurusThese golden beauties with their brilliant blues and greens are what dreams are made of out here. Mahi typically run 15-29 pounds, though we've seen monsters push 50+.
