Capt. Ryan is a seasoned Master Marine Captain with a strong proficiency in navigating and safely operating vessels. His expertise extends to meticulous maintenance of boat equipment, including engines and generators, reflecting his mechanical acumen and attention to detail. Known for his calm demeanor and attentiveness while at sea, Capt. Ryan combines his passion for fishing with a background in entertainment and catering, ensuring every customer enjoys a positive and memorable experience.
His credentials include a Master Captain certification with 25 GRT for near coastal waters, along with endorsements in assistance towing, ordinary seaman duties, wiper responsibilities, and stewardship in the F.H. department. He holds certifications in Heartsaver First Aid with CPR AED, DOT Random Drug and Alcohol Testing, USCG Medical Certification, water rescue awareness, Hazmat operations, and first responder operations.
Originally drawn to the waters of the Chesapeake Bay from a young age for fishing, crabbing, and boating, Capt. Ryan's career shift has brought him back to his lifelong passions. Operating out of Virginia Beach, VA, Is That Right Sport Fishing offers unforgettable angling experiences in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
Capt. Ryan specializes in various fishing techniques such as light tackle, heavy tackle, bottom fishing, and trolling, tailored to target species like Striped Bass, Catfish, Tuna, Wahoo, Seabass, and Cobia. Trips range from 4 to 12 hours, accommodating up to 6 anglers aboard a luxurious 36’ Luhrs offshore sportfishing boat equipped with amenities including a restroom, air conditioning, ice box, navigation gear, and kitchen facilities. High-quality rods, reels, and terminal tackle are provided, along with fishing licenses handled by the charter.
Guests are advised to bring their preferred food and beverages in a small cooler, as well as appropriate clothing, rain gear, sunscreen, and personal medications. Legal catches can be kept, and a first mate will be onboard to assist throughout the trip, offering services including fish cleaning and packaging for a customary 20% tip.

My wife, our 10-year-old and 8-year-old children, and I enjoyed a 4-hour morning excursion. We began by catching Spanish Mackerel. After landing 13 of them, we shifted our focus to pursuing Cobia. Although we spotted at least 12, they proved elusive and didn't take the bait. It's a good excuse for us to plan another trip!
