Eric Gonzalez
Spend the day fishing with Island Adventure Charters and experience some of the most consistent inshore and nearshore action Galveston has to offer. Captain Eric was born and raised on Galveston Island and has been fishing these waters most of his life. He started deckhanding at just 14 years old, earned his Captain’s license at 21, and has spent the last seven years guiding anglers of all skill levels. When you step on board, you’re fishing with someone who truly knows the bays, jetties, and nearshore waters inside and out.
Fishing in Galveston changes often, which is part of what makes it special. New opportunities show up throughout the year, and there’s almost always something biting. Depending on conditions and season, trips may target Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel, Spadefish, and nearshore species like Red Snapper and sharks. This variety makes Island Adventure Charters a great choice for both first-time anglers and returning guests looking for a different experience each trip.
Techniques vary based on the plan for the day and may include spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, or bottom fishing. Captain Eric keeps things flexible and focuses on what gives guests the best chance to stay engaged and catch fish.
Families are always welcome. Captain Eric enjoys working with kids and new anglers and takes a hands-on teaching approach so everyone feels involved. Children are required to wear life vests, so be sure to check availability for the right size. Bringing snacks is recommended to keep everyone comfortable throughout the trip.
Trips are run aboard a wide and roomy 32-foot center console that comfortably accommodates up to six passengers. The boat features a private toilet, wheelchair accessibility, and a trolling motor to help maximize fishing time without unnecessary anchoring.
Rods, reels, tackle, and lures are provided. Live bait may be available depending on the trip, so be sure to ask whether it will be supplied or caught during the outing. Guests may need to purchase a local fishing license, and some species may require tags or have regulations in place.
Bring bottled water, non-spray sunscreen, and sunglasses. Alcohol is allowed. Island Adventure Charters isn’t just a job for Captain Eric. It’s what he loves doing, and he’s ready to share it with you on the water in Galveston.
