Jonathan Paterno
JP Charters offers private fishing trips out of Cape May, New Jersey, designed for families, first-time saltwater anglers, and experienced fishermen alike. Captain Jonathan Paterno has spent years learning the tides, structure, and seasonal movements of local fish, allowing him to tailor each trip to the conditions and the needs of his guests. Whether you are fishing the calmer waters of the Delaware Bay or heading into the open ocean, every trip is planned with safety, comfort, and results in mind.
Trips are run aboard a well-maintained center console boat that provides plenty of room for up to six passengers. The layout allows everyone to fish comfortably while staying close enough for hands-on guidance when needed. Quality rods, reels, tackle, and lures are provided, and live bait is available depending on the trip and season. Fishing licenses are included, so guests can focus on enjoying their time on the water without extra planning.
Cape May offers a wide range of fishing opportunities throughout the year. Depending on timing, anglers may target Striped Bass, Bluefish, Black Drum, Flounder, Black Seabass, Tautog, Sheepshead, and Mahi Mahi. Techniques often include trolling and bottom fishing with light or heavy tackle, giving guests a chance to learn different styles while covering productive water.
JP Charters is especially known for family-friendly fishing trips. Kids are always welcome, and Captain Jonathan takes pride in helping young anglers catch their first saltwater fish. Instruction is clear and patient, making these trips a great option for beginners. Parents are encouraged to bring snacks, drinks, and child-sized life vests if available, though it is always best to ask what is already on board.
Guests should plan to bring sunblock, bottled water, and sunglasses. Alcohol is permitted in moderation, excluding glass containers and hard liquor. Some fish may need to be released due to regulations, and the captain is happy to explain current rules and expectations.
From short half-day outings to longer offshore runs, trip lengths can be adjusted to match weather conditions, skill levels, and personal goals. Every charter is customized so guests feel relaxed, informed, and confident throughout the day. Booking go and questions welcome.!
