Jasper Park Fishing

Ryan Catherwood, Guide at Jasper Park Fishing

Welcome to Jasper Park Fishing, your gateway to an unforgettable angling experience nestled in the heart of Jasper, Alberta. Renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and abundant wildlife, Jasper National Park is not just a haven for nature enthusiasts but also a paradise for fishing aficionados.

Maligne Lake stands as the crown jewel of Jasper's fishing destinations. Nourished by numerous glaciers, the lake's scenery is a dynamic display of snow-draped mountains. Our eco-friendly electric freighter canoes are perfect for seeking out rainbow trout, typically in the 2-5 lbs range, and brook trout that can weigh up to 4 lbs. Notably, Maligne Lake is renowned for holding the Alberta record for the largest rainbow trout, an impressive 20 lb. 6 oz. (approximately 12 kg).Spanning 14 miles, Maligne Lake offers diverse experiences. Our half-day tours cover the initial few miles, but we also provide full-day adventures and extended journeys beyond the Samson Narrows. Over at Talbot Lake, Northern Pike, a Canadian fishing favorite, dominates. The lake's crystal-clear waters and shallow depth of 7-8 feet provide an ideal setting for sight fishing these feisty fish. It's a fantastic spot for young anglers or beginners, with pike averaging 2-6 lbs. The lake's record is an impressive 27 lbs pike. The Athabasca River, a mainstay in Jasper, is home to bull trout (a protected species), rainbow trout, whitefish, and pike. The optimal fishing seasons are during the spring and fall, avoiding the snowmelt periods which render the river too turbid and high for effective fishing.

For fly fishing enthusiasts, the upper Maligne River, stretching between Maligne and Medicine lakes, is a haven. This 15 km (about 10 miles) stretch is a hotspot for dry fly or nymph fishing. Open from August 1st to September 30th, it's teeming with spirited small rainbow and brook trout.

Our packages include the services of a Parks Canada licensed fishing guide, rainwear, and all necessary fishing gear. Lunch is available at $15 on full-day excursions. Usage of boats and electric trolling motors is included, with an additional transportation fee of $38.
