Port Aransas 6-Hour Deep Sea Charter
Looking for a real fishing adventure off the Texas coast? Our 6-hour deep sea charter out of Port Aransas puts you right in the heart of some of the Gulf's best fishing grounds. With our experienced crew running the show, you'll spend your day targeting trophy species like Red Snapper, King Mackerel, and Cobia in waters that consistently produce great catches. We keep groups small at just 6 anglers max, so everyone gets plenty of rod time and personalized attention from our captain and crew.
What to Expect on the Water
Your morning starts early at the Port Aransas marina, where you'll meet your captain for a quick safety briefing and gear check. We'll head out into the Gulf, running 15-25 miles offshore to reach the prime fishing grounds where the big fish hang out. The boat's equipped with quality rods, reels, and tackle - though you're welcome to bring your own gear if you've got favorites. Our crew knows these waters like the back of their hand and will put you on fish whether you're a weekend warrior or this is your first time holding a rod. The Gulf can serve up anything from calm seas to a little chop, but that's all part of the offshore experience. You'll want to bring sunscreen, a hat, and maybe some seasickness meds if you're prone to getting queasy.
Techniques and Tackle
We fish these offshore waters using a mix of bottom fishing and trolling techniques, depending on what's biting and the conditions we find out there. For Red Snapper and Cobia, we'll anchor up over structure and drop baits down to where these fish like to hold. We're talking circle hooks with fresh cut bait - squid, cigar minnows, and whatever else is working that day. When we're after King Mackerel and Barracuda, we'll pull out the trolling spread with live bait or lures, covering water until we find the action. The crew handles all the rigging and will coach you through fighting these fish properly. Don't worry about bringing tackle - we've got everything from light spinning gear for smaller fish to heavy conventional setups for the big boys that might show up.
Species You'll Want to Hook
King Mackerel are the speed demons of the Gulf and one of our most popular targets. These fish can stretch 20-40 pounds and will absolutely scream line off your reel when they hit. Best fishing happens from April through October when they're moving through our area following bait schools. What makes Kings so fun is that initial run - they'll take 100 yards of line before you even know what hit you. Plus, they make excellent table fare when prepared right.
Blacktip Sharks might not be what you came for, but they'll give you a fight you won't forget. These guys are pure muscle and will test your arms with long, steady runs and occasional jumps. We see them year-round, but summer months are prime time. Most run 3-6 feet long, and while we practice catch and release with sharks, the experience of battling one of these prehistoric predators is something every angler should experience at least once.
Great Barracuda are the ambush predators of the offshore world, hanging around structure waiting to blast anything that looks like an easy meal. They're built for speed with razor-sharp teeth and an attitude to match. Spring and summer bring the best Barracuda action, and fish in the 10-20 pound range are common. They hit hard, jump high, and will slice through light tackle in a heartbeat if you're not careful.
Cobia are one of the most prized catches in these waters, and for good reason. These brown sharks of the fishing world are curious, aggressive, and absolutely delicious on the dinner table. Peak season runs from March through June when they're migrating through our area. A good Cobia will run 20-50 pounds and fight with surprising power for their size. They're also one of the few fish that will actually swim up to the boat to check you out, making for some exciting sight fishing opportunities.
Red Snapper are the gold standard of Gulf fishing and the fish most folks are hoping to take home for dinner. These bottom dwellers live around structure in 60-200 feet of water and can be finicky eaters one day and absolutely voracious the next. During open season (typically summer months), we target Snappers over reefs and hard bottom where they stack up in good numbers. A keeper Snapper runs 16 inches minimum, but we regularly see fish in the 5-10 pound range that make for perfect eating.
