Anglers fishing the Michigan side of Lake Michigan are enjoying consistent action as early summer patterns settle in. King Salmon are showing up in good numbers around Ludington, Manistee, and Frankfort, especially during early morning and late evening hours. Most are being caught in 80 to 150 feet of water, suspended 40 to 70 feet down. Spoons in green, blue, and UV patterns have been effective, along with flasher/fly combos and meat rigs when trolled at 2.5 to 3.0 mph. Lake Trout are a reliable option right now as well, hitting well near the bottom in 100 to 120 feet of water. Spin-n-glows behind cowbells or dodgers are getting it done. Coho Salmon and Steelhead are scattered but being caught higher in the water column over deeper water, especially near temperature breaks and bait pods. Look for Steelhead action to improve with more stable weather and consistent surface temps. Boats launching from Grand Haven, Muskegon, and Traverse City have reported steady success, particularly when fishing near drop-offs and underwater structure. The water is clear and relatively calm, making it easier to mark fish and stay on top of the bite. This is a great time to get out and enjoy Michigan’s side of Lake Michigan—fishing pressure is light during the week, and the fish are active.
