Private 8 Hour Fishing & Eleuthera Adventure
Looking for the ultimate Nassau fishing charter that goes way beyond just dropping lines? Our Private 8 Hour Fishing & Eleuthera trip with Mutton Fish Tours combines the best deep-water fishing with some seriously cool Bahamian adventures. We're talking swimming with pigs, exploring pristine reefs, and hauling in fish – all in one epic day on the water. This isn't your typical half-day fishing trip. We've designed this experience for groups who want it all: the adrenaline of fighting fish in blue water, plus those bucket-list moments that make the Bahamas legendary.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts early as we cruise out toward Eleuthera, one of the most beautiful and productive fishing areas in the Bahamas. The journey itself is part of the adventure – we'll be scanning for bird activity and bait schools that signal where the big fish are hanging out. First stop is the famous Meeks Patch, where you'll get to swim with the world-renowned swimming pigs. It sounds crazy, but trust me, these pigs know how to work a crowd and they're surprisingly good swimmers. After drying off, we head to Spanish Wells for lunch – this local fishing village serves up some of the freshest conch and fish you'll ever taste. The afternoon brings us to Rose Island Reef, where the snorkeling is absolutely world-class. The coral formations here are pristine, and the visibility is usually crystal clear. Then comes the main event – deep-water fishing in some of Nassau's most productive offshore waters. We'll be targeting the drop-offs and current edges where pelagic species love to hunt. Your group of up to 10 people will have plenty of room to spread out and everyone gets their shot at the action.
Techniques & Territory
We run a mix of trolling and live bait fishing depending on conditions and what's biting. Our boat is rigged with top-rated Penn and Shimano gear, so you're fishing with tournament-quality equipment. For trolling, we'll pull a spread of lures and ballyhoo at different depths to cover the water column. The Bahamian waters around Eleuthera are known for their dramatic drop-offs – we're talking about going from 30 feet to over 1,000 feet in just a few hundred yards. That's where the magic happens. The deep current edges attract baitfish, and where there's bait, there are predators. We also keep live bait ready for when we mark fish on the sounder or see feeding activity. The technique here is all about reading the water – watching for color changes, temperature breaks, and bird activity. Our captain has been fishing these waters for over 15 years and knows exactly where to position the boat based on wind, current, and seasonal patterns. The reef fishing around Rose Island uses lighter tackle and different techniques – we'll anchor up and use cut bait or small jigs to target the resident species that call the reef home.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Mahi-mahi are hands down the customer favorite on this trip, and for good reason. These fish are absolute rockets – when a bull dolphin hits your lure, you'll know it instantly. They typically run 10-30 pounds in these waters, with the occasional trophy pushing 40-plus. Mahi travel in schools, so when you hook one, there's usually more around. The best part? They're spectacular jumpers and put on an amazing aerial show. Peak season runs from April through August, but we see them year-round. What makes mahi special is their aggressive feeding behavior – they'll often stay around the boat after you hook the first one, giving everyone a chance to get in on the action.
Wahoo are the speed demons of the Bahamian waters, capable of hitting 60 mph when they strike your lure. These fish are built like torpedoes and they fight like it too. Most wahoo in our area range from 15-40 pounds, though we've seen some absolute monsters over 60 pounds. They're notoriously finicky eaters, often striking on the edges of structure or current breaks. Winter months from December through March tend to be prime time for wahoo, when they're most active in our waters. What gets anglers excited about wahoo is their unpredictability – they'll hit when you least expect it, and the initial run is absolutely blistering.
Yellowfin tuna are the marathon runners of the deep water, and they'll test your endurance like no other fish. These powerful fighters typically show up in the 20-60 pound range around Nassau, with their distinctive bright yellow fins flashing as they dive deep. Tuna are most active during dawn and dusk feeding periods, which fits perfectly into our full-day schedule. They're schooling fish that follow the thermocline and bait concentrations. What makes yellowfin so appealing to serious anglers is their stamina – they'll pull drag for what feels like forever, making multiple long runs before you can get them to the boat.
