Conditions: Mild temperatures, good clarity on the Umpqua River, light winds offshore Fishing around Reedsport is heating up as we move into May. The Umpqua River is producing solid spring chinook salmon action, especially in the early mornings and late afternoons. Anglers trolling herring or using spinners are reporting hookups between Reedsport and Scottsburg. Bank anglers are also getting in on the action using cured eggs under a bobber. Bottom fishing has been productive offshore when weather allows. Boats heading out of Winchester Bay are finding limits of rockfish and a few impressive lingcod. Near the jetties, greenling and cabezon are starting to show more frequently, with fresh bait and light tackle producing best. Crabbing remains steady in the bay with full pots not uncommon, especially on an incoming tide. Surf anglers are landing redtail surfperch along the beaches near the South Jetty using sand shrimp or Gulp! sandworms. Trout fishing is also picking up in nearby lakes like Lake Marie and Eel Lake, with stocked rainbows biting well in the mornings.
Looks like the last trip out for coho was a success.. able to get easy limits of coho and crab for them today.. Always fun
Went out to today with Walt and Justin McCoin,, conditions weren’t great but we hung in there and limited out with rock fish.. Great time with them as always. Book your next Oregon fishing trip with us today!

Despite challenging conditions, Captain Dave managed to get us on some fish, and our group had an amazing time. He is fantastic to work with and maintains excellent communication throughout. The boat is new, very safe, and kept us dry even in rough surf. Overall, a great trip 👍

The weather wasn't perfect, but despite the conditions, the captain and crew put in great effort to ensure we reached our limit. It was both an enjoyable and productive trip.

The weather was poor, and we didn’t catch any fish, but the boat ride was still exciting and fun. The captain was excellent, and the boat handling was top-notch.

Had an awesome Solomon guided fishing trip with Dave the captain of Ocean Obsession this morning he has a positive outlook and great attitude. When most guides would not go out because it was possibly to windy he said not to worry he knows the waters and we would be good. Dave is very professional and a great fisherman with him lots of experience in this area we caught two great Solomon and they were the biggest of the day. Even when we were told by other people that Solomon were really slow. If you are thinking about fishing for Solomon Dave is the Gide for your trip. I would not hesitate to book another trip with him again

You have to love Winchester Bay ..Captain Dave (Ocean Obsession Guide Service) graciously waited until the rain stopped at 2 pm for Cathy’s first ever crab trip..a 10 minute idle to the crab gear which happened to be only 100yds from our RV . His puller was down for repairs so he and I had to pull by hand ..2 fathoms (which in landlubber terms is 12 feet 😁)First pot had 30 very nice crab …from legal to commercial grade.Back at the dock by 2:45..as usual Dave was great.like being on a friend’s boat .Again 100$ each for 12 crab each is a great deal! It was great to be able to cook crab and look at the buoys where we caught them
