Half Day Snorkeling Sandbar Adventure
Look, I'll be straight with you – while we're primarily known for putting anglers on trophy fish here in Islamorada, sometimes the best days on the water aren't about the bite at all. This 4-hour private trip combines the crystal-clear flats we fish daily with some of the most gorgeous snorkeling spots in the Keys. You'll experience the same pristine waters where tarpon roll and bonefish cruise, but from a completely different angle. Perfect for families who want to see what's underneath while still getting that authentic Keys boat experience.
What to Expect on the Water
We'll launch from Three Waters Resort and Marina – the same dock where serious fishing guides head out every morning. The Master Chief handles up to 6 guests comfortably, and she's built for these shallow waters. You'll cruise over the same flats where we sight-fish for bones and permit, but instead of scanning for tails, you'll be looking down through that gin-clear water at the coral heads and grass beds below. The morning trips catch the best light for spotting marine life, while afternoon departures give you that perfect Florida Keys sunset on the ride back. Either way, you're getting 4 solid hours exploring some of the clearest water in North America.
Gear Setup & Locations
All your snorkel gear comes included – masks, fins, snorkels – the works. We keep everything sized and ready to go, so you just show up with your swimsuit and sunscreen. The spots we hit are carefully chosen based on conditions, just like we do when we're chasing fish. Clear, calm water with good visibility is the name of the game. You'll snorkel around coral patches that sit in 8-12 feet of water – deep enough to see plenty of life, shallow enough that you're not fighting current or dealing with boat traffic. After working the coral, we'll anchor up at one of the area's famous sandbars where the water's knee-deep and crystal clear. It's the same type of white sand bottom where we pole for bonefish, but here you can just wade around and soak up the sun.
Marine Life You'll Encounter
The reef systems around Islamorada are absolutely loaded with tropical species. You'll see parrotfish cruising the coral – these guys can get surprisingly big, some pushing 20+ pounds, and they're always munching away at the reef. Their bright blues and greens make them easy to spot. Sergeant majors are everywhere too, those feisty little yellow and black striped fish that'll actually come right up to check you out. Keep an eye out for yellowtail snapper – we target these beauties when we're fishing, and seeing them in their natural habitat gives you a whole new appreciation for why they're so popular on the dinner table. You might also spot some juvenile grouper hiding in the coral structure, along with angelfish, wrasse, and maybe even a green moray eel tucked back in a crevice. The grass beds often hold juvenile tarpon, and trust me, seeing a baby silver king glide by while you're floating overhead never gets old.
Time to Book Your Spot
This trip fills up fast, especially during peak season when the weather's most reliable. Islamorada's location in the heart of the Keys means you're getting some of the best water clarity and marine diversity anywhere in Florida. Whether you're taking a break from fishing, introducing the family to Keys waters, or just want to see what all the fuss is about regarding our world-class flats, this trip delivers. The Master Chief runs year-round, and conditions are generally fishable – I mean, snorkelable – most days. Book now and get ready to see why guides like me never get tired of these waters, even when we're not holding a rod.
