Evening Reef And Wreck Fishing Adventure
There's something special about hitting the water as the sun starts its descent over Palm Beach. This 3-hour evening fishing trip takes you just outside Palm Beach Inlet where the reefs and wrecks hold some of South Florida's best bottom fishing action. You'll be targeting prime species like mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, grouper, triggerfish, and maybe even some kingfish if they're cruising through. With all equipment and licenses included, you just need to show up ready to fish. The trip accommodates up to 3 anglers, making it perfect for a small group looking for personalized attention and plenty of elbow room.
What to Expect on the Water
We'll cruise out from Palm Beach Inlet to some of my favorite spots where artificial reefs and natural wrecks create underwater highways for fish. Evening fishing has its advantages – the water tends to calm down, the crowds thin out, and fish often become more active as temperatures drop. The structures we fish range from shallow patch reefs in 30-60 feet to deeper wrecks that sit in 80-120 feet of water. Each spot has its own personality and holds different species depending on the season, current, and time of year. You'll get to experience true South Florida bottom fishing at its finest, with multiple drops and plenty of variety to keep things interesting. The smaller group size means we can move around quickly when fish aren't biting and spend more time where the action is hot.
Bottom Fishing Techniques
We'll be using traditional bottom rigs with circle hooks and enough weight to get down through the current and stay connected to the structure. I provide everything from rods and reels to terminal tackle, so you don't need to worry about bringing anything except yourself. We'll use fresh cut bait like sardines, pilchards, and squid – proven producers on these reefs and wrecks. The technique is straightforward but effective: drop your bait to the bottom, reel up a few cranks, and wait for that telltale thump of a fish picking up your offering. I'll teach you how to read the different bites – snappers tend to be quick and decisive while grouper often just load up on the rod with steady pressure. We'll adjust our approach based on what's biting, sometimes fishing tight to the structure and other times backing off to intercept fish as they move between spots.
Top Catches This Season
Mutton snapper are the crown jewel of reef fishing around Palm Beach, and these wrecks hold some beautiful fish. They're smart, strong fighters that can reach 15-20 pounds, though most of what we catch runs in the 3-8 pound range. Muttons are most active during warmer months but can be caught year-round. They're incredibly good eating and put up a great fight on medium tackle. What makes them exciting is their unpredictability – they might ignore your bait for an hour then suddenly turn on and bite everything you drop down. Yellowtail snapper are another staple, especially during summer and fall months. These smaller snappers are lightning fast and incredibly tasty, usually running 1-3 pounds. They school up around structure and once you find them, the action can be non-stop. Grouper fishing varies by season due to regulations, but when they're open, these bottom dwellers provide some of the most satisfying catches. They fight hard and straight down, testing your drag and determination. Triggerfish might not win beauty contests, but they're tough fighters and excellent table fare. They have powerful jaws and aren't afraid to use them, making for entertaining battles on lighter tackle. Kingfish occasionally cruise these same areas, and if we hook into one, you'll experience some of the fastest runs in South Florida waters.
