Extended Half Day Port Canaveral Fishing Trip
Port Canaveral's inshore waters are about to become your new favorite fishing grounds. This 6-hour guided trip gives you serious time on the water to work the flats, channels, and structure where the fish love to hang out. Captain John and his team know these waters like the back of their hand, and they're ready to put you on some quality fish. Whether you're bringing the kids for their first real fishing adventure or you're a seasoned angler looking to add some Florida species to your list, this extended half-day trip delivers the goods.
What to Expect on the Water
Six hours might sound like a long day, but trust me – time flies when the fish are biting. We'll launch from Port Canaveral and head to the prime inshore spots where snook, redfish, and bluefish cruise the shallows. The beauty of an extended trip is we're not rushed. If one spot isn't producing, we've got plenty of time to relocate and find where the fish are stacked up. The boat accommodates up to three guests, so you'll get personalized attention and plenty of room to fish comfortably. Captain John reads the water conditions, tide charts, and seasonal patterns to maximize your chances of success. Some days the bite is hot and heavy, other days require a bit more patience – but that's fishing, and that's what makes it so addictive.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
We'll be running a mix of live bait and artificials depending on what the fish are telling us. Live shrimp is always a solid choice for redfish and snook, especially around dock pilings and oyster bars. When we're working the grass flats, we might switch to soft plastics on jig heads or throw some topwater plugs during the early morning bite. The captain provides all the gear, but if you've got a favorite rod or reel setup, feel free to bring it along. We'll be fishing in water ranging from 2 to 10 feet deep, so expect some sight fishing opportunities when conditions are right. The shallow water fishing here is visual and exciting – you'll often see the fish before you cast to them. We'll anchor up on productive structure or drift the flats depending on wind and current conditions.
Customer Stories
"We had a really good trip. Captain John knew exactly where to take us and what setup to use. The bite was a bit light at times, but even our thirteen-year-old daughter enjoyed the day. We'll definitely head out with John again the next time we're in the area." - Clark
Species You'll Want to Hook
Snook are the crown jewel of Florida inshore fishing, and Port Canaveral's got plenty of them. These ambush predators love hanging around structure – think dock pilings, bridge supports, and mangrove edges. They're most active during the warmer months from April through October, with the best action happening during dawn and dusk. A slot-size snook puts up a serious fight with explosive strikes and bulldogging runs toward cover. What makes them so special is their unpredictable nature – they can be finicky one minute and absolutely crushing baits the next.
Redfish, or "reds" as we call them, are the bread and butter of inshore fishing around here. These copper-colored bruisers cruise the shallow flats and oyster bars year-round, though they're most cooperative during the cooler months from October through March. Bull reds over the slot limit are catch-and-release only, but they'll give you an arm workout you won't forget. Slot reds make excellent table fare and fight hard in the shallows. Look for them tailing in super shallow water or cruising the edges of grass beds.
Bluefish might not get the respect they deserve, but they're pure fun on light tackle. These aggressive feeders travel in schools and when you find them, the action can be non-stop. Spring and fall migrations bring the best bluefish action to Port Canaveral's waters. They'll hit just about anything you throw at them – live bait, cut bait, spoons, or plugs. Blues fight hard with long runs and acrobatic jumps. They're also fantastic eating when prepared fresh, despite what some people might tell you.
