Casting for Trout on the Provo: An Unforgettable Fly Fishing Adventure

It was a beautiful spring day in Provo, Utah, perfect for a peaceful wade fishing trip on the Provo River. I met up with Ethan and one other guest at 8:00 am to kick off our 4-Hour Wade Fishing adventure with Provo River Fly Fishing Guides. The weather was just about perfect - partly cloudy throughout the day, with a nice cool breeze keeping things comfortable as we hit the water. We started off working some of the prime fly fishing runs, looking to entice some hungry trout to rise to our flies. The conditions were fantastic, with clear, great water that allowed us to spot fish holding in the deeper pockets and seams. While we didn't manage to hook into anything right away, it was just great to be out on the river, taking in the peaceful scenery and enjoying some quality time on the water. I showed the guys some of my favorite fly fishing techniques, and they were picking it up quick, making some nice casts and working the water methodically. After a while, the action started picking up, and we began connecting with some feisty Trout. Nothing huge, but the fish were putting up a great fight on our lightweight fly rods. It was just one of those days where the fishing was steady, with enough action to keep us engaged without ever feeling too hectic. We rotated through different flies and presentation styles, reading the water and adjusting our approach to find what the fish wanted. By the time our trip wrapped up, we'd had a great time on the river, with plenty of laughs and some nice fish to show for our efforts. If you're looking to experience some of the best fly fishing Utah has to offer, I'd highly recommend booking a 4-Hour Wade Fishing trip with Provo River Fly Fishing Guides. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting into the sport, we'll make sure you have an amazing time on the water, with top-notch gear, proven techniques, and the kind of scenic, peaceful setting that makes fly fishing so special. The Provo River is truly a gem, and we can't wait to share it with you. So what are you waiting for? Book your trip today and let's get you out on the water!

Fishing Report

The Provo is fishing well especially with hoppers size 10-12 with a phesant tail/PMD dropper sizes 20-24. Healthy brown trout are hungry and fight well in the higher water

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Very busy with other anglers but fished very well

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Fished very well even though it was hot. The fish fought well

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Runoff has flows higher than usual. The fish are gorging themselves with worms and sow bugs

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Fish are starting to take small to mid size hoppers. Starting to throw hopper dropper w/baetis and sowbug patterns

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Runoff continues as it starts to heat up. Provo is fishing really well despite difficulties

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Water starting to rise, hot head sow bugs are the ticket to rising water levels and reduced clarity, throwing some san juan worms in red and wine colors size 10-12

defaultImg

Fishing Report

Water levels are low with deep pockets, midge hatches peridocially throughout the day. Fish are picky but hungry so throwing a phesant tail and a zebra midge will do the trick! Stomach sample proven cased caddis size 16. Clear skies and about 20-25 degrees throughout the day.

Trout Fishing

Pheasant Tails and Midges were the key! Excellent day to go trout fishing.

Middle Provo Fishing Report

Trevor is awesome! He is very patient and gives incremental feedback. The last time I picked up a fly rod was about 20 years ago. To say I was “rusty” is an understatement. My first trip with him was February, and after a bit of on-on-one tutoring I was casting sufficient to land a good 14” brown trout. My second trip was an afternoon trip in the first week of April. With Trevor’s quick reminders from my previous trip, I was on the fish within minutes, and caught 6 good size brown trout. My third trip was a week later and was even more productive. My first fish was an awesome 22” rainbow trout and then several brown trout followed (honestly I lost count). Trevor kept giving great feedback and suggestions. He was as excited to see me catch fish as I was. Even though I had my own net he was there supporting me every time.

Trevor is incredibly knowledgeable of all aspects of fly fishing. On my guided trip on the Middle Provo River with him, he helped me understand the mechanics of how to fly fish. I quickly got the hang of casting, mending, and hooking the fish along with how to properly identify which flies to use for the day. The trip was a great success and I caught over 10 fish that day. I would highly recommend hiring Trevor and his team as a fly fishing guide.

Incredible day of fishing! The well-maintained equipment, picturesque scenery, and the joy of reeling in big catches made it a memorable outing for the whole family.

The Fly Ty Guy Guides is an excellent fly fishing guide/operator who is professional, experienced, knowledgable and a great teacher with a strong ability to put you on the fish. Trevor provides high quality fishing equipment and carries 4,000 plus hand tied flies of all types and sizes which match any hatch. Trevor’s fly tying skills sets this guide service apart from other guide services with the ability to match the hatch and put you on the fish with flies he has tied. Store bought flies cannot compare or produce the results that Trevor’s experience and hand-tied flies produce. I highly recommend this guide service. Two thumbs up and five stars.
