Half Day Offshore Fishing in Corpus Christi
Ready to get out on the Gulf and hook into some serious fish? This half-day charter aboard our brand-new 2024 Parker 2900 puts you right where the action is – targeting tuna, kingfish, and whatever else is biting in Corpus Christi's productive offshore waters. Whether you're bringing the family for their first taste of blue water fishing or you're a seasoned angler looking to add some variety to your logbook, this trip delivers the goods. We keep it simple: show up ready to fish, and we'll handle the rest.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day kicks off bright and early at 7:00 or 8:00 AM, depending on what works best for your crew. The Parker 2900 is a sweet ride – comfortable enough for a full day but built to handle the Gulf's personality when she gets a little feisty. We'll cruise out to the nearshore structure and productive bottom where the fish stack up, usually within 30 minutes of leaving the dock. The boat's rigged with quality electronics, so we're not guessing where the fish are – we're putting you on them. With space for up to six anglers, there's plenty of room to spread out and work different techniques without getting tangled up. The ride out gives everyone time to get their sea legs and talk through the game plan for the day.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
We mix it up out there depending on what's working and what you're looking to catch. Bottom fishing is our bread and butter – dropping live bait or cut bait down to structure where snapper and cobia like to hang out. When the kings are running, we'll switch to light tackle and work the water column with live bait or pull some lures. Jigging is deadly effective when we mark fish on the bottom, and there's nothing quite like feeling that thump when a big fish crushes your jig. Drift fishing lets us cover water and put baits in front of cruising pelagics like mahi and tuna. All the gear's provided, from rods and reels to tackle and bait, but if you've got a favorite setup, bring it along. We're running circle hooks for most live bait applications – they hook fish better and make for easier releases when needed.
Top Catches This Season
Blackfin tuna are the speed demons of the Gulf, and when you hook one, you'll know it immediately. These fish typically run 10-25 pounds and fight way above their weight class. They school up around structure and temperature breaks, usually in 60-100 feet of water. Best action happens in the cooler months from October through March when they're feeding heavily. What makes blackfins so fun is their willingness to eat just about anything – live bait, jigs, small lures – and they don't give up easy once hooked.
King mackerel are the rockstars of nearshore fishing around here. These toothy critters can stretch over three feet and put on an aerial show that'll get your heart pumping. They're most active from April through October, cruising the edges of structure and ambushing baitfish. Kings are notorious for their slashing strikes and long runs, making them a top choice for anglers who like their fish with attitude. We typically find them in 30-80 feet of water, and they're suckers for slow-trolled live bait or flashy spoons.
Mahi mahi, or dolphinfish as the old-timers call them, are pure gold when we find them. These colorful fighters love floating debris and weed lines, and they'll often travel in schools. Most of our mahi run 5-15 pounds, but the bulls can push 30-plus and provide world-class sport on lighter tackle. They're most common in the warmer months and have a habit of jumping clear out of the water when hooked. Plus, they're excellent table fare if you're looking to take dinner home.
Cobia are the bulldogs of the Gulf – brown, muscular fish that can top 40 pounds and fight like they're twice that size. They're curious fish that will often come right up to the boat to investigate, giving you a clear shot with live bait or a jig. Peak season runs from March through June, though we see them sporadically all year. What makes cobia special is their willingness to eat big baits and their stubborn, head-shaking fight that'll test your tackle and your patience.
Red snapper are the crown jewel of Gulf bottom fishing, and when the season's open, they're what most folks are after. These beautiful fish can live over 50 years and reach impressive sizes. They stack up on hard bottom and artificial reefs, and once you find a good school, the action can be non-stop. Reds are smart fish that require the right presentation, but when you dial it in, it's game on. They're also some of the best eating fish in the Gulf, with firm white meat that's perfect for the dinner table.
