Born and raised in Central Florida, Capt. Bobby Savino developed a deep passion for fishing, surrounded by some of the world’s best freshwater and saltwater opportunities. In 2008, he joined Saltwater Safari Company, an elite Alaskan charter outfit, starting as a deckhand. Over four seasons on deck, he honed his skills before advancing to captain the vessels Legend and Legacy for five seasons. By 2012, at the age of 22, he earned his Merchant Mariner credentials as Master of Vessels up to 100 gross tons. During the winter off-season, Capt. Bobby returns to Florida to guide tours in the Everglades.

Saltwater Safari Company is supported by an exceptional team, including Captain Noah Wamsteker and Captain Camden Tait from Mobile, Alabama. Since joining in 2017, they have worked under the mentorship of Capt. Bobby and Captain Bob, gaining invaluable knowledge about Seward’s fishery and local waters. Together, they share a passion for fishing and strive to introduce guests to the breathtaking beauty of Resurrection Bay and the Gulf of Alaska.

Established in 1990, Saltwater Safari Company stands as Alaska’s premier charter fishing service and a pioneer of Seward’s long-range fishing grounds. Owned and operated by Captains Bob Candopoulos and Bobby Savino, the company boasts over 60 combined seasons of fishing expertise. Its fleet includes three remarkable vessels: the 53' Legend and Legacy and the 43' Renegade. Through meticulous mapping of the Gulf of Alaska’s ocean floor, they have opened access to some of the region’s most extraordinary fishing grounds.

Seward, Alaska, is a world-renowned sportfishing destination, just two hours from Anchorage. It offers diverse fishing opportunities, from light-tackle angling for King and Silver Salmon to deep-sea battles with Giant Pacific Halibut. The Gulf of Alaska’s rich reefs and deep structures host an incredible variety of fish, with anglers often encountering massive halibut, lingcod, yellow-eye rockfish, and black rockfish.

Bag limits include 2 halibut per person (one under 28"), 3 rockfish per person, up to 6 salmon per person, 1 lingcod per person, and no limit on Pacific cod. Captain Bobby Savino and his crew ensure that every guest’s catch is expertly cleaned, bagged, and prepared, with options for vacuum sealing and shipping available upon request.

We booked this trip after our plans in Homer were canceled due to bad weather a few days prior. Unable to rebook in Homer, this was our last option for a full-day halibut fishing trip. The experience was exactly as advertised, with halibut being the primary target until everyone on board had reached their limit, followed by rockfish fishing (everyone limited on those as well). Other fish were caught too. While we had hoped to fish further out for larger halibut, the trip met the advertised expectations. The boat was very comfortable, and the first mate worked tirelessly throughout the day, always with a smile. There was less interaction with Captain Cameron, but he remained professional.

It was a fantastic experience with a highly professional organization. Throughout the trip, I felt that the captain and crew always had the best interests of the guests in mind. Fishing in Alaska was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, one I had been eagerly anticipating. The combination of the stunning natural beauty of Resurrection Bay and reeling in massive halibut is something I’ll never forget. Saltwater Safari has the expertise, top-notch equipment, and skilled crew to ensure your Seward trip is unforgettable. From the excellent condition of the boat to the mates’ expert fish filleting, everything was top quality. I highly recommend them!

January 22, 2025

Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, the crew gave us the choice to either reschedule or go fishing, and we were eager to give it a try! They informed us that the bite might not be as strong due to our inability to reach the usual offshore spots. With rough seas, cold temperatures, and rain, we managed to catch a few fish (halibut, yellow-eye rockfish, cod). Once we moved into the bay, the rockfish bite was on fire! We had so much fun, we forgot how cold and wet we were! We limited out in less than 20 minutes. Noah and Cam were incredible—some of the best guides I’ve ever had. The boat was spotless, and the equipment was top-notch. 10/10 would highly recommend!

Captain Bobby was fantastic, expertly guiding us to all the best fishing spots. It was great that he was also hands-on, jumping out on deck to assist all the anglers with catching and reeling in fish! Our first mates, Sam and Luka, were absolutely incredible—working tirelessly to take care of everyone and offering helpful tips along the way. We couldn’t have asked for a better crew! Saltwater Safari should definitely be proud of their team! 😊

January 22, 2025

We were extremely pleased with Captain Noah and Mate Tyler. They took care of all the gear and bait, and were incredibly helpful in landing and enjoying the fish we caught. As an inexperienced angler, I felt completely comfortable with their guidance throughout the trip. The boat was clean and well-maintained. I highly recommend this company and crew to both experienced and novice fishermen!

The salmon weren’t biting, so we all agreed to switch gears and go after halibut. Luca and Parker quickly changed out all of our poles, and Captain Noah found the perfect spot. From there, it was non-stop action, with fish on every line! What an amazing crew and an unforgettable trip!
