Private Snorkel Charter in Key Largo Waters
Looking for a snorkel adventure that's all yours? Sea Dwellers Dive Center's private charters give you and your crew exclusive access to some of the most stunning reef systems in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. We're talking crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral formations, and marine life that'll leave you speechless. Whether you're bringing the family for their first snorkel experience or planning a group outing with seasoned water enthusiasts, this charter delivers the personal touch you won't find on crowded dive boats.
What You're Getting Into
This isn't your typical cattle-boat snorkel trip. Sea Dwellers keeps groups intimate at 7-15 people max, so you get personalized attention and plenty of elbow room on deck. Your captain will hit two prime locations during the outing, giving you 65 minutes of water time at each spot – that's over two hours exploring underwater without feeling rushed. The crew knows these reefs like the back of their hand and will point you toward the best coral heads and cleaning stations where fish congregate. Expect shallow, protected waters perfect for snorkelers of all skill levels, plus the option to explore historic wrecks like the Benwood where marine life has taken over the structure. The 20-minute boat rides between sites give you time to warm up, hydrate, and scan the surface for sea turtles and flying fish.
Gear Setup & Water Entry
All your snorkel gear comes included – mask, snorkel, fins, and flotation devices if needed. The crew will help you get properly fitted before you hit the water, and they're pros at adjusting masks for different face shapes and fin sizing. Entry and exit points are designed for easy access with a sturdy swim platform and ladder system. The boat stays moored right over the reef sites, so you're not swimming long distances to reach the good stuff. If you're new to snorkeling, the guides will give you a quick briefing on breathing techniques, clearing your mask, and how to move efficiently through the water without kicking up sand or damaging coral. More experienced snorkelers can spread out and explore at their own pace while staying within the designated safety zone.
Customer Stories
"Great people with awesome crew and captain , highly recommend !!!" - Jonathan
"Sea Dwellers continues to be a great dive shop! This visit I completed my PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification while my brother snorkeled. We did 10 dives each. Sea Dwellers has a well-equipped boat with convenient and comfortable arrangements for the short transit and preparations for entering/exiting the water. Tony and Jasmin served as the crew, while Captain Kate and David navigated us from the landing to the dive site and back. As a retired Navy guy, I continue to be impressed with the shiphandling skills demonstrated by the Captains as they navigate out of port and into the berth. There is a viewing area on the foredeck for the 20 minutes transit, and my brother and I watched turtles and flying fish during the trips out and back. The crew was helpful and engaging, making sure we were ready to go and briefing us on not only safety factors but also what to look for and how best to make the most out of the dive. The dive sites are healthy reefs with much sea life. Among other things, I saw: Black tip reef shark, nurse shark, rays, puffer fish, a LARGE (5 ft, around 200 lbs) grouper, lobsters, eels, and a nudibranch as well as fan coral with schools of aquarium fish as far as I could see, which sometimes was greater than 60 feet. My instructors Beau, Leslie, and Erica made my certification dives challenging and fun, ensuring that I demonstrated the skills necessary for AOWD certification. My brother snorkeled, and with the shallow reefs, including the Benwood wreck, he saw as much and I did and claimed he had a better and broader field of view than me in some cases. Brothers are that way. The crew and instructors were friendly, knowledgeable, and focused on safety and fun. The boat was well equipped, not crowded, and comfortable both underway and moored, and the trip with my brother could not have gone better. In the words of Arnold, I'll be back!" - Kim
Marine Life Encounters
The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary hosts an amazing variety of tropical fish and larger marine animals that make every snorkel session different. Green sea turtles are year-round residents here, often spotted grazing on seagrass beds or resting under coral ledges. These gentle giants can grow up to 400 pounds and aren't bothered by snorkelers who maintain a respectful distance. You'll likely see them surface for air every 15-20 minutes, creating perfect photo opportunities. Nurse sharks frequent these shallow reefs, particularly during warmer months from April through October. Despite their intimidating name, they're docile bottom-dwellers that cruise slowly along the sand looking for crustaceans and small fish. Spotting a 6-foot nurse shark gliding beneath you is a rush that never gets old.
The reef structure itself supports massive schools of tropical fish – yellow tangs, parrotfish, angelfish, and wrasses create colorful clouds around the coral heads. Grouper hang out in the deeper cuts and overhangs, with some specimens reaching impressive sizes. The larger ones have been around for decades and have learned that divers and snorkelers aren't a threat, so they'll often approach within arm's length for a closer look. Barracuda patrol the outer edges of the reefs in silver schools that can stretch for 50 yards or more. While they look intimidating with their razor teeth and torpedo-shaped bodies, they're curious but harmless to humans.
Stingrays bury themselves in sandy patches between coral formations, and eagle rays occasionally cruise through with their distinctive spotted patterns and graceful wingbeats. The wreck sites add another
