Book with Bob Weathersby
*** The regions' ONLY light tackle bluefin specialist. 1+ bluefin hookup on EVERY trip in 2022!***
Capt. Bob Weathersby, an expert angler with over 50 years of experience in catching bluefin tuna from his Rye NH home. As a lifelong fisherman, Capt. Bob has always been drawn to the challenge and excitement of fishing for this powerful and elusive species. His accomplishments include landing two bluefin tuna exceeding 1000 lbs, and earning college tuition by commercially fishing for striped bass. He graduated Valedictorian from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and achieved the level of First Officer aboard the Exxon Philadelphia prior to coming ashore for a more family-friendly lifestyle. He brings these professional credentials forward to ensure you a safe, informative, and productive day at sea you will never forget. Prior to setting a sole focus on light tackle trophy bluefin tuna, Capt. Bob racked up an enviable record as a light tackle, trophy striped bass specialist. Year in, year out his clients landed Rye’s largest striped bass, and he went 9 consecutive seasons landing fish on every trip. Not to say striped bass fishing is routine, as the ocean changes every day, but over time Capt. Bob yearned to hone his craft on bluefin tuna fishing on his terms: using the fastest, best equipped, and most comfortable boat in the region sporting top-of the line equipment. Whether for surface feeding fish or deep feeders, Capt. Bob has the equipment and techniques and expertise to get the hookups. In fact, he hooked at least one bluefin on EVERY trip in 2022. It’s these results that make Capt. Bob a sought-after guide and mentor in the fishing community. Fighting and landing trophy bluefin on standup tackle is a combination of gear preparation, angler technique, and boat maneuverability. Capt. Bob tests his connections on a scale before departure, ensuring his anglers stay tight. He coaches his anglers on getting the most from their fight. And finally, his Yellowfin’s 700 hp spin the boat on a dime, in any sea state. As a steward of the ocean, Bob is deeply committed to promoting sustainable fishing practices and protecting the local ecosystem, and he work tirelessly to ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy the thrill of catching bluefin tuna. While his goal is always to focus on fish size classes that can be retained by the angler, on certain days government regulations require large bluefin be released unharmed,

What a day! We met Captain Bob at the docks at Rye Harbor for an early departure to fish for Bluefin Tuna. We chartered him years ago for a striped bass trip and the kids still talk about it. Since then, he has a gorgeous new boat with brand new engines- we made it about 25 or so miles offshore in no time. We moved a time or two for bait and then cast our lines for tuna. After about 50 minutes of pleasant conversation about the area, the sea, the fish and whales around - a tuna took our line. “Holy smokes”, it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Captain Bob set me up in the harness and I was fighting a Very powerful fish. It was truly incredible. Bob was great with tips to keep the fish on the line and wear him out. He really knows his stuff. After about 45 minutes, the fish was at the boat and Bob got him on board. The fish was beautiful. He weighed about 300 lbs.- about 100lbs more than me. Lots of photos, smiles and again memories to last a lifetime. I can’t recommend fishing with Captain Bob enough- he’s absolutely the best- boat, gear and captain.

Had a wonderful day with Captain Bob - we booked a 1/2 day striper trip with my sons and grandkids. They caught their first stripers and are still talking about how nice Captain Bob was. He truly went out of his way to make sure everyone had a great experience. We will be back for more. Thanks for a great day!

Excellent charter. Capt Bob goes above and beyond to try to put you on fish. We didn't get the tuna due to an unfortunate storm that rolled in, but we still hooked into some stripers on way to the home marina. I highly recommend Capt Bob for a friendly, professional and knowledgeable charter!
