Captain Vlad, the driving force behind Smackdown Sportfishing, brings a lifetime of fishing experience to his new charter service. With roots in Ukraine, where he began fishing at the age of five, and a migration to Canada in 2003, Captain Vlad has explored northern inland lakes throughout the Kawarthas and French River. Since 2018, his focus has shifted to the Great Lakes, where he has achieved notable success in catching salmon, rainbow trout, and walleye, earning several derby prizes along the way.
Beginning in 2024, Captain Vlad is excited to offer his expertise and passion for fishing through fully guided trips on Lake Ontario, Erie, and Huron. As a newcomer to chartering, he is eager to share his extensive knowledge with others. Anglers will embark on their fishing adventures aboard a 20ft Lund Tyee 1950 Magnum, equipped with a powerful 225 HP Supercharged Mercury Verado and a 9.9 HP Mercury Pro Kicker. This versatile boat, designed for the Great Lakes, ensures a comfortable and effective fishing experience.
The charter service will cover various prime fishing locations including the south shore of Lake Ontario, with trips departing from Port Dalhousie, Grimsby, and Hamilton during April and May, and the north shore from Buffers Park Marina from June to October. Additionally, trips will be available on Lake Erie from Port Glasgow between June and September, as well as on Lake Huron starting from Grand Bend from May to September.
Guests are asked to bring only their favorite snacks and drinks, as well as comfortable clothing. Captain Vlad provides high-quality 60 SPF sunscreen on the boat, so there’s no need to worry about packing that unless one has a specific preference. Furthermore, all participants in Captain Vlad's trips are automatically entered into the SCGFA Spring Salmon Derby, the GOSD Salmon Derby, and the SCGFA Fall Derby. Over the past two seasons, anglers have shared over $10,000 in prizes, reflecting the success and enjoyment of the fishing trips.

I booked this charter fishing trip as a birthday gift for my 72-year-old father, and it turned out to be an incredible experience. I also brought my 13 and 15-year-old teenagers, and everyone had a blast. Captain Vlad's deep knowledge of the lake made all the difference. We ended up catching 16 fish in total, releasing 5 and keeping 11, which included 5 impressive salmon weighing 19-20 pounds each, along with 6 assorted trout. This trip is perfect for family outings.
