Inside the Hunt
You'll be hunting prime whitetail country just outside Pottsboro, where the Red River bottoms meet rolling hills covered in oak and mesquite. This isn't your typical weekend hunt – we're talking four full days of serious hunting with lodging that actually lets you get some rest between dawn and dusk sits. The property holds plenty of mature bucks, and our cull program means you'll have shots at deer that need to come out of the gene pool. Does are plentiful here, especially during the rut when they're moving constantly. Hogs? They're everywhere, and we encourage you to shoot every one you see. These hunts run from October 1st through February 28th, covering everything from early season bow action to late winter rifle hunts when the deer are patterned on food sources.
Tracking Tips & Terrain
The terrain here is classic North Texas – a mix of creek bottoms thick with timber and open ridges where you can glass for miles. Most of our hunting happens from elevated stands positioned over well-established game trails and food plots. Early morning sits focus on bedding areas where bucks are heading back after a night of chasing does or hitting the corn feeders. Evening hunts put you on travel corridors between bedding and feeding areas. If you're bringing your own rifle, anything in .270 or larger will handle our whitetails just fine. Don't have a rifle? No problem – we rent quality firearms for $125 per day per gun, and they're sighted in and ready to go. Our guides know this property like the back of their hands and will put you in the right spot based on wind direction, recent sign, and what the cameras have been showing.
Target Game Breakdown
White-tailed deer are the main attraction here, and North Texas grows some absolute monsters. Bucks in this area typically dress out between 140-180 pounds, with mature animals sporting impressive antler spreads that look great on the wall. October through December is prime time when bucks are moving during daylight hours, either establishing territory or chasing does during the rut. These deer are smart – they've seen plenty of hunting pressure – but our managed property gives them the security they need to move during legal shooting hours. Does are active year-round but really shine during late season when they're grouped up and easier to pattern. They're excellent table fare and help keep the herd balanced.
Wild hogs are the bonus critters that keep things interesting between deer sightings. These aren't the little pigs you might imagine – we're talking about 100-300 pound bruisers that root up everything in sight and compete with deer for food sources. Hogs are active day and night, which means you might get shot opportunities when deer movement is slow. They travel in groups, so don't be surprised if you see a whole sounder come through your area. Unlike deer, there's no limit on hogs, and we actually want you to shoot as many as possible. They're tough animals, so shot placement is critical – aim for the shoulder area just like you would on a deer.
