Alex was fantastic! We booked this experience on December 26 as a Christmas gift for our kids, and it was such a memorable day. Alex provided detailed instructions, including how to cast, but since we’re a camping and fishing family, we didn’t need much help. Still, it was reassuring to know he’s great at assisting everyone, even those new to outdoor activities. Having never crabbed before, it was amazing to just show up with our chairs while Alex supplied all the gear we needed for the adventure. Highlights of The Art of Crabbing: Kid-Friendly: Alex was great with kids and made the experience engaging for them. Convenient Location: The spot had easy parking, restrooms, a coffee shop, and a stunning photo backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge. Expert Knowledge: Alex answered all our questions and shared tons of information about crabs, size regulations, crab types, and male/female identification. Baiting Made Easy: Alex baited the snares to start, then guided us to do it ourselves. For those hesitant to handle squid, he’s happy to assist. My kids wanted the full hands-on experience. Clear Instructions: We received helpful pre-arrival tips about parking, what to bring, and what to expect. Things to Keep in Mind: Pier Safety: The dock is open with no fencing. My older kids (10 and 8) did great, but I brought a leash for my 3-year-old as an extra precaution. The age restrictions make sense for this reason. Dress for the Weather: Wear waterproof boots and warm clothing. The pier has puddles, and you might get a bit wet pulling up nets. San Francisco can be chilly, but dressing warmly makes it enjoyable. Snacks and Clean-Up: We brought snacks and hand soap to clean up since the restrooms are a short walk away. This experience was absolutely worth it! If you’re looking to try something new and exciting, give it a go!

I chose this experience to celebrate my birthday, and it was absolutely fantastic! Alex and JD did an incredible job teaching our group of 13, and 11 of us successfully caught crabs. They were not only knowledgeable but also fun to hang out with, making the entire day even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this experience—it was unforgettable!

As someone who had never been fishing or crabbing before, I decided to try this experience on my own—and it was fantastic! Alex and JD were incredibly helpful and informative, guiding our small group through every step, including tips on preparing and cooking our catch. They also explained which crabs were legal to keep and shared recommendations for other great crabbing spots. I had an amazing time and would highly recommend this activity for solo adventurers, couples, or small groups!

This experience was absolutely amazing! We started with zero knowledge about crabbing and enjoyed it so much that we went out and bought our own crabbing gear the very next day. Alex and his assistant were fantastic—they made crabbing fun, easy, and educational. The best part was how hands-on it was, allowing us to truly learn the process and feel confident about crabbing on our own in the future. If you're in the San Francisco area and looking for a unique activity, I highly recommend The Art of Crabbing!

The Art of Crabbing was an incredible way to dive into crabbing and see if it’s something we’d enjoy long-term. After some light online research, I convinced my spouse to give crabbing a try. Neither of us had ever been crabbing before, and I had zero fishing experience, so we were starting from scratch. We decided The Art of Crabbing would be the perfect introduction to see if we liked it before committing to buying our own gear. We joined an afternoon group with two other small groups, and the atmosphere was friendly and fun. Alex and JD were fantastic instructors. They provided a thorough overview at the start and shared helpful tips throughout the experience, all while actively participating with the group. They explained how they crafted the snares we used and walked us through the finer points of casting, reeling, and crabbing techniques. Although the crabs we caught were too small to keep, the process was so much fun, and we learned a ton. By the end of the session, we felt confident enough to go crabbing on our own and plan to add it to our weekend activities. We’re excited to get our own gear and start exploring this new hobby. Thanks for an amazing afternoon and a memorable introduction to crabbing!
