Here's a local tip: when you feel that first heavy thump, don't set the hook hard. Kings have soft mouths, so just lift the rod steady and let the downrigger hooks do their job. Oncorhynchus KisutchSilver salmon are the acrobats of the lake, jumping clear out of the water when hooked. Most run 8-12 pounds, but we see plenty in the 15-pound range. Cohos cruise the upper water column, typically 40-80 feet down, chasing baitfish near temperature breaks. They're active all summer but really turn on during August and early September. What guests love about silvers is their aerial show – they'll jump repeatedly, making every fight a spectacle. The orange-pink meat is excellent table fare, milder than kings.
