Captain Chuck Bishop, also known as Coach, has been immersed in a diverse array of sports from an early age, demonstrating a natural talent and enthusiasm that has continued throughout his life. His journey into the world of hunting and fishing began early, thanks to his grandfather, who introduced him to these outdoor pursuits. This early exposure fostered a deep appreciation for outdoor activities. As Coach grew older and moved to the coast, he expanded his horizons to include scuba diving and fishing, further enriching his connection to the water.
Living near the coast, Coach was influenced by his neighbor, a seasoned commercial fisherman and charter captain. This relationship not only deepened his love for fishing but also inspired him to obtain his own captain’s license. His experience as a scuba diver has been particularly beneficial, providing him with a detailed understanding of underwater structures and reefs, as well as the diverse marine life that populates these environments. This combination of skills and knowledge has made Coach a highly skilled and knowledgeable guide.
Victory Charters, operated by Coach Bishop, reflects his long-standing dedication to the sport. For over 30 years, Coach has been a respected teacher and coach in the Wilmington area. His passion for the outdoors is evident through his extensive involvement in fishing, hunting, and scuba diving. Now, he has transitioned from teaching to fully embracing his passion for fishing, offering his expertise to those eager to experience the rich fishing grounds off Wrightsville Beach.

Vehicle Details
Summer fishing around Wrightsville Beach is firing on all cylinders, with warm temps bringing a steady bite across the inshore waters. From the ICW to the creeks and flats, anglers are finding solid action on a variety of species. Red drum have been the top target this week, with good numbers of slot-sized fish holding near docks, oyster beds, and grass lines. Early mornings on a rising tide have produced the best bite, especially using cut mullet, live shrimp, or gold spoons. Sight fishing on the flats is also productive on calmer days, with tailing reds spotted during higher tides. Speckled trout are still hanging around in decent numbers, particularly in deeper creek bends and around structure. The bite has been best during moving water, with live shrimp under a cork or soft plastics on a jig head doing the trick. While most trout are in the 14–18” range, a few gator-sized fish have been caught around first light. Flounder are active along sandy drop-offs, docks, and creek mouths. Anglers dragging mud minnows or finger mullet on Carolina rigs are finding flatfish in the 15–19” range, with some keepers showing up on the incoming tide. Water clarity has been solid overall, with early mornings and late afternoons offering the most comfortable conditions. Boat traffic picks up mid-day, so plan accordingly if you're looking for a quieter session. Now’s a great time to hit the water—Wrightsville Beach inshore fishing is delivering a solid mix of action and variety for anglers of all skill levels.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Would absolutely recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3/4 day charter, catching 20 Spanish Mackerel near shore. While there wasn’t much action further out—evidenced by the other boats’ lack of catches—the Captain was prompt and had everything set up perfectly. We had a great experience and would book with them again without hesitation.

We booked our trip just a day in advance, and the captain still made sure we had a great time! He was a great guy with solid fishing advice, and even with a slower season and heavy rain, we still caught some smaller Spanish mackerel.
