Experience a true backcountry hunt with Whitetail Excursions in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia. Owned and guided by Anthony Bain, this semi-guided hunting experience takes you deep into the mountains, where rugged terrain, a rustic off-grid cabin, and the opportunity to pursue whitetail deer create a hunt unlike a traditional lodge stay.

Your experience begins when you arrive on-site and meet your guide. Anthony will check your gear, verify your Virginia Hunting License and age, review the waiver, and confirm that the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources app is downloaded on your phone. Hunters must be at least 18 years old.

Before heading down the mountain, you will have the opportunity to test your weapon, whether you are hunting with a bow, muzzleloader, or rifle, depending on the season. This helps ensure you are prepared before entering the backcountry.

The descent covers approximately two miles and 2,000 feet of elevation through variable and occasionally steep terrain. Hunters should pack only what they can comfortably carry, while the guide assists with anything they cannot manage.

At the bottom of the mountain, you will settle into a rustic, off-grid cabin surrounded by the Blue Ridge landscape. Snacks are waiting when you arrive, and your guide will return with remaining gear and a hot meal. The cabin is simple and built for the purpose of hunting, offering a quiet base camp away from roads and distractions.
