This 6-hour offshore adventure out of Pompano Beach gives you the best of both worlds - chasing pelagics in blue water and dropping down for some solid bottom fishing on the way back. Your day starts early as we head out into the Atlantic, where the Gulf Stream brings nutrient-rich water close to shore. Depending on what Mother Nature throws at us, we'll adjust our game plan - maybe flying kites for sailfish and kingfish, trolling the temperature breaks for mahi and tuna, or following the bird action when they're working bait schools. The crew reads the water constantly, looking for color changes, current edges, and surface activity that signals feeding fish below. After working the offshore grounds for pelagic species, we'll swing by some productive deep-drop spots on the return trip. These deeper reefs and ledges hold quality snapper and grouper that'll make great table fare, giving you a mixed bag to take home.
We run a versatile operation that adapts to conditions and what the fish are doing. Kite fishing is a local specialty here - we'll put out live goggle-eyes or pilchards on flat lines while the kites keep baits dancing on the surface. Kings and cobia can't resist that action. When we're trolling, expect a spread of ballyhoo, bonito strips, and diving plugs covering different depths and distances behind the boat. Spring migration brings the best action, especially May through July when they're moving through for spawning. These fish are sight-fishing gold - we literally hunt them down and cast right to them. They fight like freight trains with strong, stubborn runs, and the meat rivals any fish in the ocean with its firm, white flesh. We use bucktail jigs or live crabs pitched right in front of their nose. The secret is patience - cobia are curious but cautious. Make a perfect cast ahead of them and let the bait sink naturally in their path.
Scomberomorus CavallaKings are some of the fastest fish you'll encounter, averaging 20-30 pounds but capable of hitting 50+ pounds during good runs. We find them in 40-150 feet of water around structure, wrecks, and along the reef line. Peak season runs from late fall through spring when they migrate through our waters. These fish are pure adrenaline - they'll scream line off your reel with blistering runs that can melt drag washers. The meat is excellent when iced properly, though it's best eaten fresh. We usually slow-troll live bait or pull spoons behind planers. These fish put up a solid fight for their size and make excellent table fare - they're actually what's in most canned tuna. We typically troll hoochies or feathers at 4-6 knots to find them. Pro tip: when you hook one, keep your lines in the water - where there's one skipjack, there's usually a whole school ready to bite.
Xiphias GladiusSwordfish are the ultimate trophy - these deep-water giants average 9 feet and 200+ pounds, with that iconic flat bill that sets them apart from other billfish. We target them in 1,000+ feet of water where they hunt at night, coming up from the depths to feed. Night trips during new moon phases produce the best results when they're actively feeding in the water column. Landing a sword is bucket-list fishing - the fight can last hours, and the meat is restaurant-quality. We deep-drop with heavy tackle, using bright LED lights and squid baits at 200-400 foot depths.
