Captain Jim Branthoover’s love for fishing began in his youth, when he fished alongside his father in the serene streams and rivers of Pennsylvania. These early fishing adventures were filled with excitement as they cast their lines into cool, clear waters, targeting Trout in the streams and seeking Catfish, Bass, and Walleye in the larger rivers. This early experience ignited a lifelong passion for the sport and set the stage for a remarkable fishing journey.

As he matured, Jim’s fishing pursuits led him to the vast and majestic waters of Upstate New York. There, he embraced the challenges of the Great Lakes, immersing himself in the thrilling Salmon runs and the pursuit of Pike and Lake Trout. The Great Lakes offered a diverse and expansive fishing environment that deepened his love for the sport and honed his angling skills.

Years later, Jim and his family relocated to the beautiful coast of South Carolina. This move introduced him to the captivating world of coastal and offshore fishing. The allure of the deep ocean and the rich variety of pelagic and reef fish fascinated him. He spent countless days exploring the local waters with his son, who worked to catch bait for local shops. These moments of fishing and bonding with his son were both a passion and a cherished experience.

Fueled by a desire to share his enthusiasm for fishing, Jim decided to turn his extensive experience into a venture that would allow others to experience the joy of offshore fishing. Thus, Wicked Hooker Charters was established. Under Captain Jim Branthoover’s expert guidance, Wicked Hooker Charters offers a premier experience for families and friends eager to enjoy Murrells Inlet’s finest nearshore and offshore fishing adventures.

The flagship vessel, the "Wicked Hooker," is a spacious 27-foot Triton center console boat, powered by twin 200 HP Suzuki engines for a smooth, fast ride to prime fishing spots. It features state-of-the-art electronics and navigational equipment to ensure a successful day on the water.
