Xiphias Fish Company LLC offers private fishing instruction and guided fishing trips in San Diego and throughout Southern California, with a focus on helping anglers become more confident and capable on the water. Led by Ron Hester, a third-generation fisherman with 30 years of fishing experience and 10 years of guiding experience, these trips are designed for anglers who want more than a traditional charter. Ron teaches guests how to launch and operate their own boat, position for anchoring, drifting and trolling, read water and weather conditions, set up electronics, rig fishing gear, choose productive fishing areas, clean and process fish, and understand important boating etiquette.

Guests must provide their own boat and fishing gear. Ron is licensed to operate boats up to 25 tons and will contact guests about a week before their trip to help with preparation. Meeting at Shelter Island Marina in San Diego, trips can cover the Pacific Ocean, San Diego waters, Ventura County and popular offshore destinations depending on the trip and current conditions.

Available experiences include 6-hour fishing trips for up to 6 to 10 people, 12-hour offshore trips, Catalina Island trips, Channel Island trips, and specialized lobster trips. Fishing opportunities can include tuna, dorado, marlin, swordfish, halibut and white seabass, with trips tailored around the target species, location and conditions.

Ron has been fishing since childhood and comes from three generations of fishermen, including experience in commercial fishing. One memorable trip was taking his father swordfishing and landing a 196-pound swordfish in just 25 minutes. He has also caught 32 halibut near Catalina Island.

Xiphias Fish Company LLC welcomes families, beginners and experienced anglers looking to improve their fishing and boating skills. With excellent hospitality, local knowledge and practical instruction, Ron helps guests learn techniques they can continue using on their own. Trips are available year-round, with availability Monday through Sunday and a 7-day cancellation policy.
