10 Hour Offshore Fishing Trip in Corpus Christi
Looking for a serious offshore fishing adventure in Corpus Christi? Captain Andres and the crew at Yambo's Fishing Charters know exactly where the big fish are biting. This isn't your typical half-day charter - we're talking a full 10 hours on the water, giving you plenty of time to get into some serious action. From first light at 6:30 AM until we roll back into port at 4 PM, you'll be working some of the best offshore waters the Gulf of Mexico has to offer. With room for up to 4 anglers, this trip gives you the personal attention and elbow room you need to make the most of your day on the water.
What to Expect on the Water
Captain Andres has been running these waters for years, and he's got the spots dialed in. We'll head out from Corpus Christi and make our way to the offshore structure where the red snapper, grouper, and kingfish like to hang out. The boat comes fully rigged with quality rods, reels, and all the tackle you'll need - no need to bring your own gear unless you've got a lucky rod you can't fish without. This is a full-day commitment, so come ready to fish. We'll be working different depths and structures throughout the day, adjusting our tactics based on what's biting and where the action is hottest. The Gulf can serve up everything from bottom fishing for snapper and grouper to trolling for kings and mahi when they're around.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
Offshore fishing in the Gulf means we'll be using a mix of techniques depending on what we're targeting. For the bottom fish like red snapper and gag grouper, we'll be dropping heavy rigs with circle hooks and fresh bait down to structure in 60-120 feet of water. The key is getting your bait down quick before the baitfish steal it, and being ready for that solid thump when a big snapper or grouper picks it up. For kingfish, we'll troll with live bait or pull some flashy spoons and plugs. Kings are aggressive predators, so when they hit, you'll know it. All the tackle is provided, from the heavy bottom rigs to the wire leaders for kings. Captain Andres will set you up with the right gear for whatever we're targeting, and he'll make sure your drag is set properly so you don't lose the fish of a lifetime to a pulled hook.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Red snapper are the bread and butter of Gulf offshore fishing, and Corpus Christi waters hold some beauties. These guys love hanging around structure - oil rigs, artificial reefs, and natural bottom - in 60-200 feet of water. A good snapper will pull hard and steady, trying to get back to the rocks where they live. They're great eating too, which makes them a customer favorite. Red snapper season typically runs from June through July, but regulations can change, so Captain Andres stays on top of what's legal and when. A nice snapper will run anywhere from 5-15 pounds, with the occasional trophy pushing 20-plus.
Gag grouper are another top target that keeps anglers coming back. These fish are ambush predators that sit tight to structure and wait for an easy meal to swim by. When you drop a bait down to a gag, the bite often comes as a subtle tap followed by steady pressure as they try to get back to their hole. Gags are strong fish that will test your tackle and your technique. They're excellent table fare and typically run 5-20 pounds in our waters, with the occasional monster pushing 30 or more. The best time for gags is usually fall through early spring when they're more aggressive.
Northern kingfish, or king mackerel as most folks call them, are the speed demons of the Gulf. These fish are built for speed and when they hit a trolled bait or lure, they'll take line off your reel in a hurry. Kings are migratory fish, so timing matters. Spring and fall migrations bring the biggest schools through Corpus Christi waters. A good king will jump, run, and test every knot in your system. They typically range from 10-30 pounds, but trophy fish over 40 pounds are caught every season. Kings are also great eating when prepared fresh, and there's nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of watching one explode on a surface lure.
