Youth Fishing Guide Minnesota invites you and your kids for a day of fishing on the different lakes, ponds, wrecks, and other areas of Minnesota. This fishing adventure is for kids only. We know that adults love to fish, but this is the chance to let the young ones start learning about fishing. Captain Jim Newton is at the helm, your Master Guide and teacher at the same time. He has been fishing for 15 years, surely he knows how to make trips fun.
He uses an 18 feet long fishing vessel outfitted with a GPS, FishGinder, Wireless trolling motor, two live wells, and an overhead canopy. It is powered by a 115 Yamaha engine. In addition to these, it can accommodate up to 5 kids to fish.
The trip starts on the boat launch to go over some rules. Each one is required to wear a safety jacket before going to the boat. You’ll check the weather conditions and choose the type of area you would like to fish in. Then, you’ll go over the maps and select the first spot. Once you’ve reached your fishing location, you’ll anchor and set up your fishing poles; then add your bobbers, weights, and hooks. Master Guide Jim will teach you how to cast. As soon as you get the first fish on the line, he’ll guide you on how to fight the fish using your drag while keeping the rod tip up. In addition, you can also listen to music, play games, and have a good time!
Captain Jim believes that fishing is a useful experience for children. He makes it possible for every kid to get this life skill, thus making his trips accessible for everyone. We booked with Jim for a family fishing outing. We all had a great time, and Jim was just fantastic with my two daughters (8 and 6 years old)! Jim was also a great communicator, time efficient, organized, and all that, but you could tell that his great talent was teaching kids (and other inexperienced persons like myself) how to fish. I would highly recommend creating some great memories by booking a trip with Jim!

We had an amazing fishing experience with Captain Jim! We took our 11-year-old son for a fishing trip while our daughter had a break in her soccer tournament. It worked out great, and we had a blast! Our son caught Northern pike, bass, crappie and tons of sunfish. We have been on several fishing charters and our son said this was his absolute favorite! Captain Jim is patient, very knowledgeable and made the trip a lot of fun! The four hours flew by. We will definitely be coming back if we are in Minnesota again. Thank you, Captain Jim!!
