Welcome to Spring Fed Angling, Central Pennsylvania’s premier destination for guided fly fishing and drift boat float trips. Led by expert guide Ry Carman, we specialize in targeting smallmouth bass, wild trout, and musky across the region's most productive waters, including the Susquehanna River, Penns Creek, and the Juniata River. Whether you are an experienced angler looking for a Susquehanna River musky guide or a beginner seeking private fly fishing lessons in Pennsylvania, our trips are tailored entirely to your goals and skill level.

Operating out of a stealthy 15-foot RO Skiff drift boat, we offer customized float fishing experiences for a maximum of two guests. This nimble vessel allows us to navigate shallow riffles, rocky ledges, and quiet pools that larger motorboats simply cannot reach. With over a decade of local on-the-water experience, Ry understands the seasonal patterns, aquatic insect hatches, and water conditions required for a highly successful day of fishing. We pride ourselves on flexible scheduling, actively adjusting our launch times and meeting locations—such as the Liverpool Access Boat Launch—to align with peak fishing windows rather than rigid corporate hours.

Spring Fed Angling provides a variety of guided fishing trips to fit your schedule, including full-day float trips, half-day morning or afternoon sessions, and dedicated four-hour fly fishing lessons. Our Susquehanna River smallmouth bass fishing trips are renowned for fantastic topwater action, while our Penns Creek trout fishing excursions offer highly technical, rewarding dry fly opportunities. For those chasing apex predators, our Pennsylvania musky fly fishing trips provide an unforgettable challenge.

We supply all the necessary gear, including premium fly rods, reels, leaders, and custom flies, ensuring a seamless and educational experience from start to finish. Book your Pennsylvania drift boat fishing trip with Spring Fed Angling today and discover why our local river network is considered one of the finest freshwater fisheries in the country. We are dedicated to providing a personalized, engaging, and memorable day on the water for every guest.

Morning Fly Fishing Class

Build a strong foundation in a supportive, hands-on environment right on the water. Rather than practicing on dry land, you will learn essential mechanics like knot tying, basic leader construction, and proper casting loops while floating down a scenic river. The early start provides calm winds and forgiving conditions, making it easier to master line control and understand how water currents affect your drift. Your guide works closely with you from the oars of a stable drift boat, breaking down the process of reading the river and identifying where fish hold. By the end of the session, you will have the confidence and practical skills necessary to effectively present a fly and hook your own fish.

Afternoon Fly Fishing Class

Develop your casting and river-reading skills during a relaxed, on-the-water educational session. Designed entirely around your current skill level, this floating classroom experience skips the overwhelming technical jargon and focuses strictly on practical application. You will learn how to select the right fly, tie essential knots, and execute smooth casting mechanics from the casting brace of a stable rowboat. The later start time often aligns with different wind patterns and lighting conditions, offering a great opportunity to practice mending your line and controlling your drift through varied river structures. With dedicated one-on-one coaching, you will gain the practical knowledge required to independently target wild trout and smallmouth bass with confidence.

All Day Chasing Trophy Fish

Immerse yourself entirely in the rhythm of the river with a comprehensive float down the Susquehanna, Penns Creek, or the Juniata. Having a complete day on the water allows us to adapt to shifting weather patterns, follow insect hatches as they evolve, and cover miles of productive river structure that shorter floats simply cannot reach. You will fish from a specialized rowboat designed to slide over shallow riffles, giving you access to untouched holding water. Whether you want to focus heavily on presenting tiny dry flies to wary wild trout or throwing large patterns for aggressive musky and smallmouth bass, this extensive float provides the time and coaching needed to refine your casting mechanics and truly understand the local fishery.

Drift Through Prime Afternoon Feeding Hours

Spend the latter half of the day floating through beautiful Central Pennsylvania riverways when temperatures rise and aquatic insect activity shifts. Fishing from a quiet drift boat, you will learn to cast streamer patterns into deep structural pockets and shaded shorelines where predatory fish wait to ambush their next meal. As the sun lowers, we often encounter late-afternoon hatches that bring trout and bass looking for an easy catch. This session is perfectly tailored for those who prefer a relaxed start to their day, providing focused instruction on reading water currents and presenting flies effectively during changing light conditions on the river.

Start Your Day Casting on Quiet Waters

Head out early when the river is calm and the fish are actively feeding near the surface. Drifting comfortably in a specialized shallow-water skiff, you will cast topwater flies and light tackle along the rocky ledges and quiet pools of the Susquehanna or local limestone creeks. This session takes advantage of cooler water temperatures and early insect hatches, offering prime conditions to target smallmouth bass or wild trout before the midday heat sets in. Your guide provides personalized coaching from the oars, ensuring you are reading the water correctly and managing your line with ease as the morning mist lifts off the river.

Solid days of fishing on these rafts and boats… expect an orthopedic consult on those special days which happen more often than the regular ones.

I highly recommend this experience! They provide all the necessary gear and a delicious lunch. The guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire trip. They even took the time to demonstrate and teach us effective techniques for approaching fish and casting, among other things. The knowledge we gained has been incredibly helpful in my journey to learn fly fishing. We are already planning our next float trip.
