Your Advanced Open Water certification involves five adventure dives, with deep diving and underwater navigation being mandatory components. The deep dive takes you down to 100 feet – deeper than your Open Water certification allows – where you'll learn about nitrogen narcosis, bottom time management, and the importance of proper ascent rates. During navigation dives, you'll master compass use, natural navigation techniques, and learn to find your way back to the boat or shore using underwater landmarks. Florida's diverse sites mean we can choose locations that match your comfort level while still challenging you to grow. You'll use standard recreational scuba gear, but we'll also introduce you to specialty equipment like underwater slates for navigation plotting and deeper dive planning tools. These docile bottom-dwellers rest in caves and under ledges during the day, and with improved buoyancy control from your advanced training, you'll be able to hover nearby without disturbing them or damaging the reef.
