Crabs of all sizes scurry across the bottom, from tiny decorator crabs to massive spider crabs with legs spanning several feet. The diversity is amazing, and many species only venture out under cover of darkness. Basket stars unfurl their intricate arms to filter-feed in the current, creating alien-looking formations on the reef. These relatives of starfish curl up tight during the day, but at night they transform into elaborate branching structures that can span several feet across.
