Destin Gulf Coast Scuba Adventures

Ready to explore what lies beneath the emerald waters of Destin? ABC Fishing Charters brings you world-class scuba diving right here on Florida's Gulf Coast. Whether you're a certified diver looking for your next underwater adventure or someone who's been thinking about taking the plunge, our small-group trips give you the personal attention you deserve. With just 6 spots available per trip, you'll get that intimate dive experience that larger operations simply can't match.
The Gulf waters around Destin offer some of the most diverse diving on the entire Gulf Coast. We run both inshore and offshore trips depending on conditions and what you're hoping to see down there. Our inshore dives take you to shallow reefs and structure sites where visibility is typically 30-50 feet – perfect for newer divers or when the Gulf gets a bit stirred up. These spots sit in 25-40 feet of water and are absolutely loaded with marine life. The offshore trips are where things get really interesting though. We'll take you out to the deeper wrecks and natural bottom structure in 60-100 feet of water, where visibility can stretch out to 80+ feet on a good day. The water temperature stays comfortable year-round, ranging from the mid-70s in winter to the low 80s during summer months. Each dive site has its own personality – some are covered in soft corals and sponges, while others are dominated by the hard structure that attracts bigger pelagic species.
Before we splash, we'll go over the dive plan, entry and exit procedures, and what to expect on the bottom. Safety is always our top priority, so we keep our groups small and our dive profiles conservative. Most of our dives are planned for 45-60 minutes of bottom time, depending on depth and your air consumption. We provide all the basic gear you need – tanks, weights, and weight belts are included. You'll want to bring your own mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, BCD, and regulator setup. If you don't have your own gear, we can point you toward local dive shops that offer quality rental equipment. The boat is equipped with a large dive platform that makes entries and exits easy, plus we've got fresh water rinse stations and plenty of space to gear up comfortably. Our dive master will be in the water with the group, acting as your underwater guide and safety supervisor. We always dive with proper safety protocols – surface marker buoys, emergency signaling devices, and first aid equipment are standard on every trip.
Our guests keep coming back because they know what to expect from ABC Fishing Charters. Here's what some recent divers had to say: "check" - v and "not bad" - soundarya. We appreciate all the feedback from our diving community and use it to keep improving our trips and service.
Now here's something that might surprise you – American Gizzard Shad are actually one of the most fascinating species you'll encounter on our Destin dives. These silvery, deep-bodied fish are often overlooked by divers, but they play a crucial role in the Gulf's ecosystem. Gizzard Shad typically measure 8-14 inches long and have this distinctive compressed, almost disk-like body shape that makes them easily recognizable underwater. What makes them really interesting is their behavior – they're filter feeders that cruise through the water column in loose schools, filtering plankton and small particles through their gill rakers. You'll often spot them in mid-water, especially around structure where the current brings in plenty of food. They're most active during the spring and fall months when water temperatures are in that sweet spot of 75-78 degrees. The really cool thing about Gizzard Shad is watching them interact with other species. Larger predatory fish like cobia and king mackerel will often follow these schools, using them as a living fish finder to locate baitfish concentrations. For underwater photographers, they make great subjects because they're not particularly shy and their silvery sides create beautiful reflections in the filtered sunlight. Many divers are surprised to learn that these fish are actually related to herrings and can live up to 7 years in Gulf waters. During spawning season in early spring, you might witness their mating behavior where males will chase females in spiraling patterns through the water column – it's quite a sight to see at 40 feet down.
The Gulf Coast diving season runs strong year-round, but the best conditions typically happen from April through October when seas are calmer and visibility is at its peak. Our top-rated dive trips book up quickly, especially during the summer months and holiday weekends. With only 6 spots per trip, we maintain that small-group feel that serious divers appreciate. You're not just another number on a crowded dive boat – you're part of a select group getting personalized service and access to some of the Gulf's best-kept diving secrets. Whether you're logging your first Gulf Coast dive or you're a seasoned local looking for a new operator, ABC Fishing Charters delivers the kind of diving experience that keeps people talking. The combination of diverse dive sites, abundant marine life, and professional service makes this a customer favorite among Destin's diving community. Don't wait too long to secure your spot – the best diving days fill up fast, and you don't want to miss out on what could be your best dive of the year.
