West Palm Beach 6-Hour Offshore Fishing Charter
Nothing beats the feeling of being 20 miles offshore in the Atlantic, lines in the water, waiting for that rod to bend double. That's exactly what you'll get with Antidote Fishing Charters out of West Palm Beach – a full 6 hours of serious offshore action targeting some of Florida's most prized gamefish. We're talking Sailfish, Mahi, King Mackerel, Mutton Snapper, and more. This isn't your typical half-day trip where you barely get warmed up before heading back to the dock. Six hours gives us real time to work the water, hit multiple spots, and put you on fish that'll have you talking for years.
What to Expect on the Water
We'll meet you at the marina before sunrise – that's when the magic happens offshore. Coffee's usually flowing, and you'll get a quick rundown of the game plan while we load up the coolers and check the tackle. The boat's rigged and ready with everything you need: rods, reels, bait, tackle, and your Florida fishing license is covered. We keep our groups small at just 4 anglers max, so everyone gets plenty of rod time and personal attention from the crew. The ride out takes about 30-45 minutes depending on where the fish are holding, and once we clear the inlet, you'll see why West Palm's offshore scene is legendary. The Gulf Stream runs close to shore here, bringing warm water, baitfish, and the predators that follow them right to our backyard.
Trolling Tactics & Gear Setup
We run a variety of techniques depending on conditions and what's biting. Most of the time, we'll start with a spread of trolling baits – ballyhoo, bonito strips, and artificial lures that mimic the small fish these predators can't resist. The boat's equipped with outriggers and downriggers, so we can cover plenty of water and run multiple lines at different depths. When we mark fish on the finder or see birds working, we'll switch to live bait fishing or vertical jigging. The tackle's all top-shelf stuff – Penn and Shimano reels spooled with braided line that can handle whatever decides to grab your bait. If you've got your own lucky rod, bring it along, but honestly, our gear's dialed in for these waters and these fish.
Top Catches This Season
Mutton Snapper are the bread and butter out here, especially around the deeper reefs and wrecks. These guys are smart and spooky, but when you hook one, you'll know it. They make strong runs and fight hard all the way to the boat. Peak season runs from April through September, and a good Mutton will go 8-15 pounds with the occasional trophy pushing 20. Spanish Mackerel show up in big numbers during the cooler months, and while they're not the biggest fish in the ocean, they're fast, aggressive, and absolutely delicious on the table. Atlantic Sailfish are the crown jewel of South Florida offshore fishing. These acrobatic billfish put on a show like nothing else – jumping, tail-walking, and stripping drag like their life depends on it. Winter and spring are prime time for Sails, and we practice catch-and-release to keep this amazing fishery healthy. King Mackerel, or Kings as we call them, are speed demons that'll test your arms and your drag system. They're most active in spring and fall, and a big King will easily hit 30-40 pounds. Mahi Mahi, or Dolphin fish, are probably the most beautiful fish we catch out here. Those electric blues and greens are something to see, and they're fantastic eating. Mahi move through in schools, so when we find them, it's often non-stop action. Summer's the best time, especially around floating debris or weed lines. Cobia are the wildcards of the offshore world. These brown submarines cruise the reefs and wrecks, and they're curious enough to come check out the boat. They're powerful fighters and can reach 40-50 pounds, making them a real prize catch.
Why Anglers Keep Coming Back
Six hours offshore gives you something the shorter trips can't – the chance to really fish. We're not rushing back after a couple hours when things are just getting good. The crew knows these waters inside and out, from the artificial reefs close to shore to the deep-water drop-offs where the big boys hang out. Every trip's different depending on season, weather, and what the fish are doing, but that's part of the appeal. One day you might limit out on Mahi under a weed line, the next you could be battling Sailfish in 400 feet of water. The variety keeps it interesting, and the crew's flexible enough to adapt to whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Plus, all your fish get cleaned and bagged at the dock, so you're going home with dinner and some great stories.
Time to Book Your Spot
West Palm Beach offshore fishing doesn't get much better than this. Six hours, small groups, experienced crew, and some of the best fishing grounds on the East Coast – it's a combination that's hard to beat. Whether you're a seasoned angler looking to scratch that offshore itch or someone who's never felt a Sailfish on the end of the line, this trip delivers. Grab your sunglasses, bring a cooler for your catch, and get ready for a day of world-class fishing just minutes from the Palm Beach inlet.
